This was to replace an older model of the same brand, whose fan had worn out after more than five years. I contacted the supplier about a noise the fan was making when the new unit arrived, and they paid for postage back and quickly shipped a replacement. This seems to work great, just like my older model. The new design incorporates a timer, which automatically shuts the unit off after 24hours or less. Hopefully this will prolong the life of the fan motor, which is clearly the achilles heel of the product.

Overall, I love the product, which fits inside my ski boots for travel. This protects the dryer in transit, as other models I've had in the past have been damaged while rattling around in luggage, or worse yet in a ski bag. The dryer typically needs only an hour or two to completely dry my boots, which makes them much more comfortable, and better smelling than they would otherwise be.

We have used one of these for 8 years and it is still going strong so when it came time to buy an additional unit, this was the one. The new Thermic and DryGuy units have major faults that prevented us from buying again. The Hotronic heats well with excellent airflow and is very sturdy. It has one flaw. Instead of a simple on/off switch, it has an " on" button that must be turned on again every time the unit loses power. If you use it in the car for example on the way to skiing and stop for anything interrupting the power then you must remember to restart the dryer or end up with cold boots when you get to your destination. It could mean getting back out of the car or reaching way back to do so. Not so convenient when it is 5 degrees, snowing and blowing. If not for that, I would give it a 5.

The purpose of this product is to gently warm and dry your boots and gloves. If you're looking for something that will get them dry (especially my GoreTex-lined gloves that are tough to dry) without damaging them from too much heat, this little sucker will do the job very well. If you're looking for something that will make your toes and fingers hot and toasty, find something else and hope you can deal with the potential damage. I've used these to dry gloves, hiking boots and ski boots, and found that they dried in a couple hours (except when absolutely soaked). They have nice attachments for gloves and boots, and the built-in timer keeps them from running all night when an hour or two would do. Unfortunately, the timer control appears to use arbitrary units (so you have to remember roughly what an hour is) for its scale, so you have to guess a little on time.

works fine. takes about 5 hours to dry your boots, doesn't get too hot. i like the timer, appears to work fine. it's a little clunky which is why I'm giving it a 4 star instead of a 5. overall happy with this purchase.

OMG, the best thing for after snowboarding/skiing/running/hiking ever invented. I could have saved all of my running shoes from the horrible foot smell if I just would of known to dry out my shoes daily. When you board/ski you loose a 1/2 cup of sweat per foot, this dryer removes the moisture.

I use this in the garage so I don't have to smell or hear the system. Keep in mind it is blowing whatever smell that is inside your shoes around the room.

The timer on the system is a must have.

It actually WORKS!!!! And very well I might say. After trying a couple of different orange ones that you put in your boots, (don't waste your money on those, they don't work) I was ready to give up on portable boot dryers. These are easy to pack, they fit right inside my boots, and they completely dry my boots in just a few hours, not a few days like the orange ones. The also unit looks like it is built to last! I highly recommend these to any one that spends time out in the snow.

I have had one of these for many years. Mine has seen plenty of use. It has been loaned to others who then bought one too.

Another reviewer claimed the adapters fall off easily - mine don't. If you read the instructions or follow the arrows marked on the adapters you will see that the adapters should be rotated to screw them on and off the air supply tubes. It's a bit like rotating a nut onto a bolt. This gives a firm fixing and also means the boot adapters are adjustable in length and direction. (Direction of the air jets may matter depending on where you dry your gear or how much space you have to do it in.)

Only two things prevented this device from getting a perfect score.

1) On mine, you have to change the voltage setting manually each time you cross the Atlantic. If you forget to do this sooner or later you will burn the device out. Even cheap phone chargers are smarter than that. A few inexpensive semiconductors would have made all the difference.

2) The following criticism may be a bit harsh. The fan has started to make an unhealthy noise after many years of near-silence. I usually protect my ski stuff when packing it. I also know that security have other concerns when inspecting it and that baggage handlers break things in imaginative ways. So perhaps a fan failure is unsurprising after taking quite a few "impressive" hits whilst in transit.
