The urgency of his pacing presses like a weight against the chest that’s not relieved by merely turning the page. The plot quickens like the expanding universe of the author’s imagination. There is not a word or scene wasted in his respect for the story, its characters, or the reader.
Wilkerson’s skills are a reminder of what the writer’s mind can be, though sadly, few of us are wired in this way. Lovecraft himself would have loved to have written it, and not even a Houdini can escape its effect.
