Burns liquid paraffin for about 115 hours of light. It is also odorless and smokeless, making it a great emergency light source. Keep one handy with a book of matches taped to it for your next power outage. The liquid fuel is sealed inside, with only the wick exposed. You can extinguish, and use again and again. A very safe source of light! One 115 hour candle. This candle should be used only with adult supervision. Remember, safety first!

The light from these candles is bright and clear, although not as bright as a flashlight. We put one on the kitchen counter and it lights the room enough to get around safely, but not enough to read by.
Because of the risk of fire, I wouldn't suggest using these candles in a tent or in a car (as one reviewer wanted to do). Set them safely on a table or countertop and enjoy 100 hours of non-smelly light.
It arrived in a ziploc bag with just a little bit of the oil that had leaked through the wick. But, for being shipped - I can't fault the condition. I just rinsed it off in the sink and toweled it off and now it sits with our emergency & camping gear ready for use.
Neat idea - simple product, but very cool.
The plug in lights work well to get around during outages, but these are a simple, clean light source, when batteries could be at a premium.
Inevitably, we only get outages during evening hours, and these have been reused several times.
Generally the power is only off for less than 2 hours.
We are near a substation, but also near tornadoes, go figure.
When Irene hit, I lost power for a few days and I got a chance to test them. I gave one to my parents and kept the other 3 for myself. The light was about the equivalent of a normal candle so I actually pulled the wick out to about double the original length (maybe 1/4" exposed) and it more then doubled the flame size. I know with the larger flame it won't last the expected 100 hours, but for the amount of light these gave off it is well worth the sacrifice.
The recent snow storm devastated my area had me without power for a few days, These candles were once again a life saver. I don't know how much less life they have with the longer flame, but the main one that has been lit thru both storms still has 2/3 of the fuel left. I recently ordered 12 more candles, so I could re-stock my Emergency kit. These are a MUST HAVE for any Emergency kit.
My only recommendation is to make sure to re-cap the candles when not in use. The fuel can evaporate and be a waste. Other then that, these are the best investment I have made so far.
It does have draw backs too, it has a small flame (with the factory adjusted wick length which gives you the 100+ hours [the pictures are of an extended wick, which grows the flame but shortens the burn life]) and is easy to blow out (so I would not recommend this candle for use in even moderately windy conditions or areas).
The final draw back is this is not the cheapest place to buy them (unless you only want to buy 1 single candle). If you look at the candle you can clearly see the name Emergency Essentials printed on the label. They are the maker and primary seller of this candle. It's 4.50 a single candle or 4/candle for orders > 12... a pretty good deal if you're in need of a significant stock up of back up light, but shipping kills the deal if you want just one candle.
Overall, I like it, Im going to buy a case, just in case, but be aware the pictures are a little misleading on flame size and it is not as hearty as a larger candle flame might be in the wind.
