Claude Bouchard is one of my favorite authors. This is the 5th book in the Barry/McCall series and I have loved every one of them. He introduces the characters and sets the stage for a carefully planned bank heist. Nothing is overlooked, every detail anticipated, and the plan proceeds like clockwork, but having read the rest of the series, and knowing that Chris Barry is in the bank, you almost feel sorry for the bad guys.

You know what's coming in a broad sense, but the details keep you guessing until the very end. Little by little, sometimes minute by minute, the story unfolds as everything that can go wrong for the robbers, does, usually at the hands of Chris and his friends from "Discreet Activities". It's a fun read with plenty of action, suspense, humor, and mystery to keep you entertained throughout.

The language can get a little rough, but it's appropriate for the characters involved.

I highly recommend 6 Hours 42 Minutes, but strongly suggest that if you haven't read the rest of the series, go back and start at the beginning, Vigilante (Barry/McCall Series). Not because you need the earlier stories to enjoy this one, but because each is a mystery and subsequent stories contain spoilers.

I picked up this book on a lark, mainly this series sounded like a good revenge type series, which I do find enjoyable. I normally won't purchase a book that has less than 300 pages...becuz I just feel like I'm getting cheated. BUT, this one is good! The story is well thought out, it proceeds very cohesively. The story really comes together and holds together; good writing. I don't mind the bad language, because truthfully, that is how a lot of people talk these days, particularly thugs.
The one thing that kept me from giving 5 stars, is I felt the dialogue was somewhat stilted sometimes. It felt like I was listening to a commercial, at times the conversation between the good guys wasn't really a conversation, it was more a recap of the events. I like the dialogue to be real, what people would really say in these situations. But this was only sometimes, definitely not always.
Overall a fast paced, well thought out, fun read where the good guys win the day!

The best so far in the series, fast pace, tension and great characters. Author does really great bad guys and in this book, the primary focus is on Chris Barry, with the others pretty much as supporting cast, which works very well with the plot.

I've had minor complaints with the previous two books about the author not doing female characters particularly well. However, in this book, he's introduced two 'group members', one active, one prospective, that are female and both are vivid. I'm not sure why he had difficulty with Barry's wife, especially in the first book where she had a fairly substantial role, but she's never really become a real person for me. This doesn't happen with the two female characters introduced in this book so perhaps he just doesn't do characters that aren't tough, kick-ass types whether male or female.

I suspect I am addicted, but just keep them coming, please.

I recently returned to the Vigilante series after a hiatus. No reason for it, really, I just went in other directions. I was pleased to observe Mr. Bouchard's maturation as a writer. He writes with much greater confidence and control than he did when he first started this interesting series. His plotting was always solid, and the narrative pacing was compelling. However, some of the sentences were awkward, and much of the dialogue failed to move. Happily, most of those problems have been resolved. In this particular story, 6 Hours, 42 Minutes, Mr. Bouchard began with a series of thumbnail sketches of the villains, and then plunged the reader up to his neck in a bank robbery gone awry. Why it went awry is thanks to Chris Barry's entirely coincidental presence at the scene of the crime. Barry has elements of Jack Reacher in him, touches of Travis McGee and a fair dose of Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford; but he is far more than the sum of his parts. He is cool, competent and eternally upbeat.

Again, I was pleased with the progress shown by #5. I can't wait to get started on #6.

One more phenomenal book in the 'Vigilante' series! Mr. Bouchard has taken this book and given in the appropriate title. Hard to believe, but the action, the suspense, and everything else happens in six hours and forty-two minutes. What a rush!

Chris Barry is once again in the right place....at the right time. Of course, that would be at a simple meeting at the bank while a group of criminals decide to steal over two million dollars! Too bad they didn't really plan on him being there....

An entire book with enough intensity to capture me for a non-stop read in one sitting. I was the main hostage of this thrill ride with a story that kept up with shocking twists right up to the end. A fantastic read and one more to recommend in this series. I look forward to the sixth book, 'Discreet Activities'!

Typical hostage siege ramifications type book but the vigilante group were more ruthless than I expected and I would be keen to read another of Claude's books.probably needed a few subtle twists to make it more compelling reading
