But then she meets a man lying under her sink. Turns out he was a teen a few years older than her when she was visiting one summer. He kissed her right before she left and it was a teen crush. But the following year her family didn't return and they never returned again. So they each got on with their lives. He marries and has two sons. He is also a widower that lost his wife 4 years ago to ovarian cancer. He too has known pain and suffering.
Now, don't get the idea that this story is sad and depressing because it is not. It is a great love story with 5 people involved plus Midnight. it is a good read. There are several heavy medical issues experienced but they are done with heart and soul and you will feel you have learned a lot when you finish reading. The story has a very HEA and it is a very interesting read. I knew from the first few pages that I had picked a winner. it is a story with heart and a story about communication. You will love the hero, he is such a great guy. Also the heroine is a strong female character, no feeling sorry for herself, she intends to survive and live a normal life and she is fighting for herself.
Great story, great read and I definitely recommend it. There is talk of sex but no actual scenes described. I think older teens would be fine reading the book as it is a good lesson in loving unconditionally and how an illness effects more that the patient. This book does have an ending so I believe the next stories will be about different characters with references to the ones we have already met. I believe the main character in this series is the house on the beach. It seems to be a magical place for healing and falling in love. Nice thought.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
Laura's grief was palpable at times and that just upped emotional investment in this story.
By reading the except you'd think this story was dark and depressing, but it's not....far from it in fact. It's about 5 people who are lost after experiencing a tramatic time in their lives. Together they overcome their painful memories of the past, and find a way to live and love, again.
IMO- Ms Barrett did an excellent job on this delicate heart-felt story, without being too dismissive, or too maudlin.
It was free, so I can't complain too much but my time is valuable and this book was not that good.
