Editorial Reviews

A construction site is probably as much a draw to kids as a park. There's something innately fascinating about watching the construction of a building or home. Cool Kid Vids and producer-directors Rob Newell and Chris Blakely have the right idea with their video House Construction, which features all aspects of a house under construction. The premise is that Super Hammer (Bob Borgia, a magician- illusionist with a King Arthur crop-top) uses his "powers" to demonstrate the process to an enthusiastic group of kids. The kids are very normal and lively--and not precocious, which is refreshing. Super Hammer, on the other hand, is a little much, but forgivable considering that the fast-forward process of the house being built is fascinating and probably will remain so for several viewings, which no doubt your kids (or the kids you're purchasing the video for) will sit through. (Ages 2 and up) --N.F. Mendoza

"Another how-things work winner, this title combines live-action footage, nifty time-lapse photography, and computer animation to bring the wonder of construction home to children in a concise, easy-to-understand package." -- Billboard Magazine, December 9, 1995

"Cool kid vid combines time-lapse photography, computer animation, and a sleight-of-hand host to offer a solid understanding of how houses are built.... Highly Recommended." -- Randy Pitman, Editor and Publisher, Video Librarian Magazine, July/August, 1995

"House Construction by Cool Kid Vids takes the mystery out of building a house.... Perfect for kids aged 3-13." -- Family Times Magazine, Feb. 15-March 15, 1996

"Of all the 'video trip' tapes available, this one highlights the locale most familiar to its intended audience of 2-to-12 year-olds....It's quite clear why this title- with its strong packaging, amiable host and clear explanations on such issues as safety around electricity and the installation of bathroom tiles- was awarded a Parents' Choice Seal of Approval." -- Video Business Magazine, January 5, 1996

"This video does an excellent job of showing all phases of home construction.... The attached parent and teacher supplement provides additional clarification on building terms used in the video.... This will give children new insights into the process of building their own homes, and construction in general." -- School Library Journal, February, 1996
