Great show! Addictive and entertaining
Verified purchase
Great show! Addictive! I liked the whole premise for the show. Not a lot of people know about the lucrative business consulting business. These consultant companies make big money so much so that they will have celeb spokes people like Tiger Woods. They work long hours 60 hour is a slow week. They make $100,000 starting after MBA if they are at a top firm. After 10 years they avg about $250,000 unless they are one of the top guys then the sky is the limit. But most guys don't make it that far they get offers to be CFOs or CEOs or Venture capitalist. It's mostly a young persons business but the older ones that survive have all the contacts and sit back and run the ship. The show is very accurate but obviously the plot and all that is dramatized. Really recommend it if you have never watched it before. And btw it's really funny too. Too much nudity and sex for my taste but I guess they do that to get viewers. I just fast forward those parts lol

Interesting Glorifications

all five seasons were much more interesting than the standard consultancies issuing "fairness" opinions on such things as "Consolidated Widgets Makes Offer to Screw Company Stockholders". Roughly on par with the consultancy which organized efforts of institutions of "higher education" to compel same gender bedroom partners. Emphasis in many episodes on sodomy in "hetero" relations and massive consumption by all players of the brain and liver lethal toxin All Co Hell along with overt episode promotions of the fraud and theft "gambling" industry and the social toxin Marriage You Wanna. Largely makes fun of the "decision processes" of manglers fraudulently transferring stuckholders equity to their criminal cronies under the euphemism "stock buybacks", embezzling ownership via egregious "stock options" schemes, and loading the companies they mangle with unpayable and readily forecloseable debt loads without directly addressing any of those real world issues. Well photographed, acted, and produced series.

Love this show

Love this show. Love the writing generally speaking with one exception. I get the unhealthy, hypocritical, deep seated, heavily entrained, Hollywood need for constant collectivist propaganda, but the last episode of season five was just over the top shamelessly ignorant to the point of stupid. Slam the pathetic take on the Koch Brothers; I don't doubt it's 100% justified; but depicting Cuba's Main Street citizens as the happiest little Commie beneficiaries on earth, with all they can eat, music everywhere, fully restored historic vehicles in nearly every driveway, all persons in sight, well dressed, laughing, loving, smiling, contented and fulfilled. Give me a break please.

This Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Beyonce guided tour image of Cuban delight is such contrived B.S., I can't believe the talented writing team stooped to it. The Cuban people are a vibrant, creative people crushed by the depraved collectivist hammer, with all quality goods exported; leaving the average Cuban with one bar of soap, some s***ty meat and some other cheap crap for each family monthly. The Sean Penn guided medical tour is top shelf - for the Cuban Elite and big name visitors. There is a lower medical tier for lower government thugs and then you finally get to the s***ty rationed medical care the real life Cuban citizen has access to.

This type of shameless, cowardly propaganda hurts the Cuban citizen by masking the horrible impoverishment of daily collectivist life under a centrally planned collectivist dictator, hiding it from the view of hopelessly uninformed Americans and whoever else watches the show. You truly ought be ashamed of yourselves for putting out this disingenuous trash supporting one of the world's more brutal dictatorships.

The wonderful Cuban people were first victimized by mafia thugs using Cuban casinos, in part, laundering narco-dollars with CIA assistance; then victimized by delusional Communist marauders aided by our wonderful CIA ; and now it appears they will be further brutalized by the world's wealthiest international conglomerate monopolies as they swarm to the continuing rape of Cuba's people and resources with the help of crony government thugs - all masquerading as helping the Cuban people by neighboring nations who care...and now your show is despicably aiding and abetting this full scale attack on the Cuban people by Elite human garbage. This is beyond the pale. Shame on you!

Kaan, Top of the world.

The characters are complex, they have a moral compass, it normally broken. They all enjoy what they do. So they are eager to work. They believe they are a team, & they want to win. They are bright, highly intelligent, & can be ruthless. But they seem to hurt only the ones that need to be Hurt. While making rich people of their clients. Still waiting on who runs for Congress, so a middle-eastern, KAAN client, can build a football Billion dollar football Stadium! K&A must find a way to sell 14 blocks of LA residents to sell, or the legislature to take action on imminent domain. So they run one of their own as a candidate to get the job done. He doesn't have to win, just change the narrative, but he/she, just may win! Stay tuned!

love marty kaan...what's not to love? he is a bmf

so far, so good. I am happy to see the four of them back together again, they make a great team and compliment each other well. marty and his family are my favorite and now the new baby girl. she is so cute. Jeanne can be a bit annoying with her indecisiveness ugh, she may be the weak link. I would like to see marty's crazy wife/ex wife get a taste of her own meds but she always comes out ahead. all characters have shown their strengths and weaknesses at this level. I really want the best for kaahn and assc. but greed always comes out at the worst times. excited for the rest of the season, the writing is brilliant and nothing like any other show on t.v. sophisticated yet edgy and always genius.

Snappy, sarcastic script makes this a great show
Verified purchase
This is a great show. Excellent actor ensemble, with snappy, witty, sarcastic and withering dialogues that make this series so fun to watch. I've always been a Don Cheadle fan as well as Kristen Bell, so when I saw the lineup for the show, I knew I had to watch it. Well, I binge-watched from Season 1 - 5, and was continually impressed with the twists and outrageous turns the writers were able to make with this particular vehicle. Cheadle is a real hoot as Marty Kaan, head of a high-end business consulting company, and Bell is his foil. The two are brilliant at the smoldering and sometimes downright cruel dialogue, and their unpredictable antics are truly fun to watch. Highly recommend!

No longer a reason to live
Verified purchase
I loved the casting and the chemistry between the actors. I loved the script and how it revealed the machinations inherent in the world of consulting, and how believably it was continually executed. I never once finished a sentence before the character spoke it, as is so easy to do with other programming. I loved the stop-action asides Marty used to provide insight to the audience. I love the knowing, or otherwise engaging, glances Marty delivered to his audience (me).

Season 5 tied up nearly all the loose ends (Roscoe not so much) and led to a believable, but unwelcome, conclusion. I hope Carnahan and Cheadle team up again to produce another series soon, or that another network will bring us Season 6 and more.

House of Lies--Worthy of a Tour
Verified purchase
The cast of characters of House of Lies were a worthy invention. They created and inhabited delicious complications in interesting storylines. In Season 5 the full-time added character is "Obscene Language," and that's tiring. The storylines are not as often compelling or dimensional as they once were. The actors are all brilliant, but the characters' stories have become blasé and too self-conscious, and House of Lies is not consistently the creative venture it once was. If you are new to this comedy, please start with Season 1. I love these actors, the characters they embody, and what this adult comedy is...often. Episode 9 is fantastic...
