My oldest child is now almost 15 and I have had this book on hand for the last 12 years. I also have 2 other children. All 3 of my children have loved this book. I have read it over and over and over again over the last 12 years. The children especially liked creating their own house is a house situations. The kids would go on and on and on for ages. I have held onto this book and read to my nieces and nephew over the years. Hopefully the book will last until I have grandchildren to read it to. I myself have thoroughly enjoyed the book time and time again.

I read this book to my daughter fifty times or more. It is a wonderful piece of poetry to recite; rhythmic and fun. The pictures are very detailed, with lots for a child to discover and ask questions about. Every page has an intricate drawing with many different recognizable details. I found it to be a good jumping off point for many varied discussions when my daughter was a tot. I send it to my friends who are having their first baby....

I have only been a first grade teacher for two years now, and am just starting to build up my own children's literature collection. House is a House for Me is without a question one of my favorites. The children loved it so much when I read this book of rhyme, not a peep was made on the rug. When I was finished reading the book, the children wanted to create their own class version entitled House is a House for Me 2! If you are a teacher or a parent, this is a small investment, but one that you and your children will treasure for years to come.

The book is very wordy and goes into houses like a throat is a home for a humm.
So not only houses for living creature but also objects and intangible objects.
I think it may end up being somewhat confusing for First grade and Kindergarten when our lesson is Animal Habitats.

A house is a house for a mole or a mouse...and a house is a house for me. Best kids book ever! I wish they would still sell it hard bound. It's like everyone affects everyone else and we all just want a nice home no matter what or who we are. Gotta have it! (But I'd search out a hardbound copy on Ebay if I were you. The soft bound really looses something. Even people who absolutely cannot stand "Where's Waldo" will like the complex pictures!

My favorite new book to read to my 4 year old. And he loves it too! Fun to read. Cool drawings. Plus existential questions of what is a "house", can't get better. Great jumping off point for discussing ideas about "houses" everywhere in the world.

The story is classic, but it's really the illustrations that are extraordinary in this book. I would recommend for children of all ages, as it's the type you can start with the very young and they can grow into, seeing more detail the older they get.

We first got this book out from the library. My kids loved it, and asked for it over and over. It's fun to read, and flows really nicely. I ended up ordering it as a hardcover, it's one of those books that you know is going to be read to death!
