Household Essentials Fibertech Ironing Boards
Fibertech Ironing Surfaces
Fibertech technology (PATENT No 8,431,200) uses natural plant fiber waste left over from processing rice, wheat, bamboo, and sugar cane and transforms it into a biodegradable, fire-retardant, flame proof, and insulating (doesn’t conduct electricity) ironing board top able to withstand temperatures higher than a standard iron reaches. Because the Fibertech board is made from natural plant fibers, it breaks down quickly, just 120-180 days in a landfill (2-3 years in a field environment).
- Uses plant fiber
- Biodegradable, fire-retardant, flame proof, and insulating
- Withstands high temps for safe, at-home ironing
- Safe for use with home steam irons
Options for comfort and style!
Ironing boards have different stances. Some stances are modified for stability, others for style and appearance. HHE offers you options, so you can have the board you want. The T-Leg is classic; the Euro-Leg modern; the Bamboo Leg sophisticated; and the 4-Leg stable and adaptable.
All HHE ironing boards are height adjustable, so you can fit your board to your height. This makes ironing more comfortable, which is always a good thing.
Each home has its own style. So we've provided a number of finishes on our ironing boards so you can find the board to fit your aesthetic. Choose from wood frames like bamboo or eucalyptus or metal frames with silver, black, copper, or bronze finishes.
Collapsible with Leg Lock
All good ironing boards collapse for storage. But HHE boards stay closed, thanks to the plastic or metal leg lock on the underside of the board. This leg lock does what its name suggests: it locks the legs in place. This means safer storage for your board.
Sleeve boards are wonderful--especially if there are sleeves and cuffs to be ironed. This feature allows sleeves to be ironed one layer at a time, reducing creases and smoothing wrinkles more effectively than the usual method. The sleeve board comes attached to the Mega Wide Top or sold separately as an accessory board.

Other people have complained that the packaging is poor. This is true. Mine was literally wrapped in cardboard (not in a box) and shipped out. Fortunately, it was in perfect working order when I received it, but I can completely understand why people received broken units.
If you iron a lot, I would highly recommend this board. I know it's about 3 times the price of lesser boards, but if you iron regularly, this ironing board is absolutely worth it.
The board is wide about 18 x 48 and it is very heavy. The top is a perforated slab compared with mesh which has benefits and drawbacks. Mesh tends to bow, whereas the slab will stay straight but can crack. I use it in conjunction with a DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler. I am a daily user of the ironing board, and my wife uses it several times a week.
The pad is pretty thin. For light ironing the board is serviceable. In this arrangement the iron holder will support the base unit of the iron, but it is not completely study. It is useless to hold any hangers or shirts. The iron (which I recommend) produces a lot of steam. It can quickly saturate the thin pad. The pad is also susceptible to picking up stains, and it will rust through and bleed into the pad if it left upright and saturated. The first board met its end when the mechanism for the leg release snapped (it appears to have rusted). I really wish there was a better board priced between the Reliable and the Household Essentials, but I am yet find the board.
In terms of size and use I would recommend, but if you can afford a better board or you are looking to invest in a longer term solution I suggest looking elsewhere. For a decent quality board, especially for light to medium duty this is a good board.
Inspect the board upon arrival, it may arrive cracked.
Be aware of any rusting.
Be aware of any standing water that may collect underneath.
Be careful with the iron stand it is not sturdy.
On to use of the board:
Set-up was easy enough, but mine doesn't sit exactly level. Unless I put a piece of cardboard or something under one of the feet, it creaks and squeaks as I'm using it, and moves around a little. Kind of annoying for an ironing board -this- expensive. I suspect if used on carpet or some soft surface, this would not be noticed, but I do my ironing in the basement.
The board is nice and wide, and you can fit a larger portion of whatever you're ironing on it. This makes the process faster if you're like me and iron almost everything you wear. The shelf/holder over to the side is nice to hang a few things on as you're working, and there's room for your bottle of starch. I can't really figure how the iron is supposed to sit into the "holder" area, unless it's a very small one. I have a Rowenta, and there's no way it's fitting in there to sit at an angle. So I end up setting the iron on the board when it's not in use, and using the shelf for starch and a lint roller.
Onto the cover:
The cover included with this is complete crap. I took it off when it got dirty looking (I use starch) and gave it a wash. Upon putting it back onto the board and pulling the tightening strings - it promptly broke. When I say broke, the string used to tighten it just pulled itself through the sewn in "loop" around the board cover.Read more ›
