The Smart Solution for Small Spaces
Household Essentials Hanging Laundry Bag is smart! It fits in the space under your doorknob, helping your living space stay cleaner. Its compact design is wide and narrow: it holds a lot, without taking up a lot of room.
Best of all, it fits your space. Bedrooms, bathrooms, apartments and dorms find the Hanging Laundry Bag a perfect fit.
Practical. Convenient. Easy to use. And machine washable, too.
The hanging laundry bag is perfectly sized to fit on doorknobs. Its balanced weight even full stays put without interfering with your ability to open the door!
The metal hook attaches to the metal frame that rims the top of the bag, creating the open-top bag. For a tighter fit on your doorknob, carefully draw the hook in on itself to narrow the opening.
Transforms into laundry sack
Remove the hook and rim and easily haul your laundry to the washing machine. Even the bag is machine washable.
Just to make it easier, a zipper in the back gives you an easy way to unload the bag into your laundry basket. Unzip and let the laundry fall.
. ..for better living!
Fits on standard doorknobs
Perfectly designed for interior doors in homes, apartments, and dorms.
Fits on lever doorknobs
Modern upgrades can still enjoy the Hanging Laundry Bag.
A better kind of laundry day
The Hanging Laundry Bag won't iron or fold your clothes for you. But it does make laundry day a little easier by keeping laundry in one place. Enjoy.
Household Essentials Hanging Laundry Bag keeps clothing and the hamper off the floor. This innovative bag hangs on your doorknob! It has a patented hanger design that creates a rim around the bag's opening, keeping it open and easily accessible. The bag fits in the space under your door handle and still allows the door to open and close. The hanger fits on standard knob and lever door handles. This hanging laundry bag is ideal for small bathrooms and bedrooms, especially those with limited floor and wall space. The bag is made of heavy-duty, breathable canvas. It's compact but can still hold up to 2 loads of laundry. It has a full zippered back for easy emptying. And its hook and rim slips out, turning the bag into an easy-to-carry sack--perfect for hauling your laundry to the washing machine. The canvas bag is machine washable (hang to dry). Perfect for back to school and college! And a great gift for small apartments and RVs. This hanging laundry bag is 27 inches high, 16.25 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. Patent # 4,694,503

Top Customer Reviews
We all have dirty clothes to wash. We all have dirty clothes to store until we wash them. How many of us are really pleased with the system we have in place? My system was definitely not working for me and it's hard to ask others in the family to help out and do their part when there wasn't a good system to begin with! When I took the plunge and ordered them, I figured I'd go all out and really get a 'system' -- each bedroom would have 2 so NO MORE SORTING.
The canvas bag zips onto a plastic coated heavy gauge (at least 1/4in diameter) metal rectangle frame. A large metal hook (in the same heavy gauge) is very securely wrapped around the rectangular frame in a way that allows it free movement and can pivot for proper positioning around doorknobs, hooks or whatever you choose to hang it on.
The design is a great idea because a more rigid attachment of the hook to the frame would not have been as easy to use & would not have lasted long when the laundry bag becomes full (you know how heavy clothes can get in a laundry bag)
We remove the bag from the frame for an occasional washing, but for unloading dirty clothes, it's easier to bring the entire unit to the laundry room rather than remove the canvas bag each time. We carry it by the metal hook and frame & the canvas bag adds little to no additional weight unlike a plastic laundry basket. (We've tried pop-up mesh hamper systems and they eventually rip or the metal that makes it pop-up eventually pokes through and becomes a hazard)
When it's time to do a load of lights, tell the kids to bring their "lights" hamper and they put the contents directly into the washer. Even a 5yr old can do it. There is a convenient zipper that runs almost the length of the bag in the bag for unloading it, but we just reach down inside and empty it by hand or we put the open top and 'shake' it empty directly into the washer & take the newly-emptied hamper upstairs. Sometimes we tall them to bring it down in the morning. At the end of the day they take their clothes upstairs along w/their empty laundry bag/hamper. The whole process takes them 2 or 3 minutes so no arguments from them.
We have a front loader and it's easy to unload these into it, but I would think it'd be even easier if you had a top-loading washing machine to use the 'dump' method.
The laundry room also serves as our mudroom which is a glorified walk-through with a door at one end to the garage & at the other end to the main part of the house. It is the changing station at the end hiking, playing outside, home from sports, etc. Consequently, clothes from the entire family would end up overflowing our previous system: a laundry basket tucked away in one of the wide cabinets. The basket was bulky, overflowed easily & never worked well. Opening the cabinet you needed to brace yourself for the inevitable clothes avalanche. Plus, it took up valuable cabinet space!
Whitney Design Doorknob Hanging Laundry Bags to the rescue. I installed coat racks along the wall of the laundry room which now hold 3 of these hanging laundry bags. I wasn't sure if anyone would actually use them, but lo and behold, THEY DO! The bags have a large enough opening about (16x6 inches) - so they are wide & easy to quickly load dirty clothes for even the most impatient. Despite the large opening, the bags don't stick into the walk-way/room area (only 4-inches from the wall). ALL other systems we've tried are square and bulky & leave not room for ingress/egress through the room without doing the side-shimmy. -- Even the bedrooms and bathrooms stay neat and tidy. They're do easy to use and hold a LOT of clothes that everyone prefers to put everything in these bags rather than having clothes or towels scattered everywhere. Even those who forget only need quick reminder.
These units are also 27 inches from top to bottom, so the dirty clothes fall down into a deep bag and stay there until you take them out. They're also canvas bags that expand sideways so they really hold aa lot. These are constantly being bumped and swayed but are so strong that they stay put! I need only take a peek at which bag is full, empty it into the washer & do a call-out to the rest of the family to bring theirs (light clothes or darks) and start a load of laundry! So simple.
This design is perfect to teach self-sufficiency to kids. Laundry baskets are unweildy for them to carry downstairs alone (not to mention dangerous sometimes). Mesh laundry bags are portable and work pretty well, but the wooden, plastic or even metal systems they mount on usually don't last long. (I've had many cracked wooden hamper stand and metal screw-together frames that just don't hold-up to a FULL heavy load inside. They are also square-shaped and take up too much floor space in a closet or bedroom) Kids can easily drag or carry these bags to the laundry room.
We hang these on the kids closet doorknobs (double bi-fold doors), on the back of each bathroom door for dirty towels & in our walk-in closets. I know that if I empty the bags from our master closets & wash them together; I can dry & fold them together and therefore, know all those go back to our room & bathroom. Same with the kids' loads. Same with towels & sheets. Very easy to keep track of things, saves space, saves time. NO COMPLAINTS. I highly recommend these to anyone whether you have a small or large home or family.
I'm glad I finally ordered them after several months of vacillating!
****UPDATE: 5 yrs later . . . These bags are still going strong. They even outlasted the coat rack I hung them on in the laundry/mud room. Instead of a coat rack, I now use Hercules Hooks. Hercules Hooks are designed to hold huge mirrors or wall hangings up to 150 lbs. making only a tiny nail hole in the dry wall. --This laundry hamper bag isn't large enough to hold 150lbs worth of laundry, but the combination of the bag and Hercules Hook gives me peace of mind. ---If you're on the fence, order one, you won't regret it. If you're crafty, you can use iron-on transfers to personalize these for each member of the family or even to give as gifts. Great for college students, too.
They hold a lot, are easy for a grown up to carry & are easy to hang. Washable bags, come apart to clean. Don't take up a lot of space. Can hang from closet rod, door knob, hook on wall, versatile. Zippers at bottom for option of emptying from that end (great for top loader). Nice, wide opening at top has allowed easy access for putting clothes in (even for little kids without hassle at all), can also empty pretty easily out the top again (=reat to dump inside top loader)
The downsides have been that the hanging hooks get twisted, making hanging awkward at times, esp after taking apart/washing (have to pay attention to how it goes back together).
Not as easy to dump/empty into a front loader machine.
Not super durable fabric. We wash them a lot (as they hold dirty clothes after all. So they get stinky, wet, stained, natural with active little kids.) We have holes in the fabric, especially where the metal bars hold up the fabric at the top. I hoped they would be a little tougher and last longer. The white metal has also scratched from just rubbing against its own hook and being taken on/off for washing. We have not bleached them or used harsh chemicals to make the fabric weak. They do get loaded with lots of heavy clothes, but that is what they were designed for. That part has been disappointing, because they look a bit old and abused, but they are not. Normal every day wear & tear, wish they could have lasted longer like some of our other laundry collection items. These were not the strongest by far in terms of metal finish or fabric durability & wear.
I would buy the same style again, not sure about this brand. Metal finish & fabric hold up/longevity left me disappointed.
If they were made with stronger fabric & an unpainted, stainless metal finish, I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy more.
