And it still works
Line drying clothing saves resources, costing less money, using less energy, and extending the life of clothing. Great grandma did it, and it still works today.
How to Choose an Outdoor Clothes Dryer
How easy is the dryer to use?
Outdoor dryers usually open and close like an umbrella. A slide on the center post moves up and down to raise and lower the lines. Most dryers are stiff at first, and then loosen up as they are used.
Love Your Dryer More by tying clothesline into bundles on either side of the center pole. This keeps tangles to a minimum!
Can I adjust the line?
Clothesline stretches--some more than others, and new clothesline most of all!
An outdoor dryer should have adjustable lines. And it should be relatively easy to do. All Household Essentials dryers use 'shoe lace' style of line-one long line that feeds through the dryer. This spreads stretch along the entire dryer for less drag on one area.
When restringing, buy about 5 feet more clothesline than the dryer's 'drying space'. Example: 210 feet of drying space = approx. 215 feet of clothesline for restringing!
How does the dryer install?
All outdoor dryers should be installed in concrete. This is because of wind. Wind gusts can topple dryers, which are tantamount to sails when loaded up! Concrete protects the dryer, your clothing, and your property.
But a Ground Sleeve is key!
A ground sleeve is a plastic tube that goes directly into the concrete to hold the dryer's pole. This way, it's possible to take the dryer down during bad weather and over winter.

Original Review: Love umbrella dryers! They are so worth having, I use mine even in winter w/ snow on the ground. But this one has some kind of rubbery feeling gray lines that stretch like crazy, & I think will probably not last long before breaking down from the sun. I got a yellow poly rope from walmart, unwound the 3 individual cords that make up the poly rope, & strung a cord thru the umbrella dryer on the outer 4 lines all the way around to strengthen the longer lines that hold more of the weight of drying clothes. I'll see if the original stretchy rubbery lines last as long as the poly rope cords that I put on it. At least the poly cords aren't stretching with the weight of jeans. I still love this dryer tho, even if I have to restring the whole thing. Love how I can stand in one spot & just swing the dryer around as I hang more clothes on it til it's full, or take them off & fold & stack them. A breeze means no wrinkles, so I can hang shirts out on plastic hangers & then straight to the closet! Some people don't do windows, but I don't do ironing! Environmentally green, saves me electricity (dryers are one of the biggest electricity users), doesn't add heat to my house in hot summer like the dryer does, love fresh air drying & getting outside a little bit on laundry day.
