Honestly, I love Natalie Barelli as a writer and adored all her previous novels and this new one is no exception. They are all great psychological thrillers with plenty of twists and switches to make you want to finish them in one sitting. The protagonist is always a woman with dubious motives, deeply flawed, often murderous and desperate, often really funny, and somehow the writing has you rooting for them all the way. Claire is the star of this one and has been harboring deep resentment against a classmate she felt wronged her family. This resentment has fueled her life and suddenly she sees the girl, now a rich, beautiful socialist (every thing Claire wants to be) and suddenly plots her revenge. I read it over two evenings and didn’t guess the big reveal at the end. I really enjoyed it and didn’t want it to end!

It's one of the most expensive properties in Manhattan. Claire stays up half the night looking for Hannah Wilson on social media. Nothing on Facebook or Twitter. Nothing recent on Instagram. That's because she's married now & wearing a diamond ring with a stone the size of a small planet. Hannah is now Mrs. Carter living a charmed life. It's the life Claire used to have, before Hannah came along.

Over the next 10 days, Claire stalks Hannah. And, when Hannah fires her housekeeper, Claire fills the vacancy. She cuts her hair short, colors it & calls herself Louise Martin. It may have been 10 years ago, but it was a big case at the time. Wilson vs. Petersen. Claire's parents were being sued in civil court for sexual assault. Claire has held a grudge against Hannah for the past 10 years. With revenge on her mind, Claire tracked her down & inserted herself into her house under false pretenses. She has had to come up with all sorts of ways to hide her duplicity.

Claire (Louise) finds a diary in a hiding place in Hannah's walk-in closet around the same time Hannah tells Claire (Louise) that there's an issue with her W-4 form; the Social Security number doesn't match. Uh, oh! All she can think about is getting back to that diary. The entries are lies about Claire (Louise), inventing events that never happened, twisting the truth. She's being played but she doesn't know why & it's scaring her. It's a setup. All this time she thought she was the cat; turns out she's the mouse.

First, no I was not given a free copy of this book. I purchased it the day it came out because I love Natalie Barelli and have already read most of her books. The minute I found out about this new book of hers I rushed to purchase it. This is one of my faves so far! The story line just drew me in and I honestly could not stop reading it. Crazy stalker becomes obsessed with woman she thinks wronged her and decides to make sure her life is not going to be a good one. The twists, the turns, and any notion that you are pretty sure that you know what will happen, how it will happen, who you will root for and how this will end, well throw those ideas out the window and buckle up for a wild ride! I am pretty darn positive that you are going to be completly wrong! But get it, buy it, borrow it or do whatever you need to do to make this book your next great read! I'm not one to rehash the book and this one definitely DOES NOT need rehashing! I promise you will not be disappointed! You will be shocked, but that's just what makes this book so good! (Why isn't my review posted??)

The mystery was ok but the main character with the baby was so passive it was ridiculous and I did not care for her at all. The other main character needed to do more research concerning her father and get help mentally.
Whew! I don't know how I ever finished this book and will not be reading any more from the author

I have just finished this book after reading it for four hours straight and I am pleased to be the first person to review it. It was absolutely gripping and kept me guessing right until the end.
There are a couple of things that need editing - the main one is right at the end of the book, when we learn that the protagonist's younger brother is married with a young son when he can only be around eighteen years old...and there are a few typos - 'fit' instead of fist, for example. Also, the expression 'it goes without saying' was overused - it came up at least five times during the course of the book. But these are minor niggles and I only mention them so that the author has a chance to correct them before too many more people read it. It deserves to be a bestseller - it's better than most of the thrillers I've read, and I've read quite a few over the last few years (while studying for an MA in novel writing and trying to write my own). I'm really impressed - if I haven't already made that clear - especially since the author seems to be writing and publishing her books at a rate of one every six months over the last few years. Well done!

Some reviewers are saying this is the author's best work to date. In which case I would hate to read the other stuff she's written. Ludicrous storyline, characters you can't engage with and a ridiculous ending. Watching paint dry for a few hours would have been more entertaining.

Claire Peterson has held a deep hatred for Hannah Wilson for over ten years. She blames her for the destruction of her family and lifestyle, turning her from an attractive looking, privileged teenager, with equally privileged friends, into an overweight, sloppy twenty four year old, working part time in a doctor's surgery and sharing a flat with her only remaining friend, April. For Hannah, however, Claire barely registers on her radar, which is why Claire is able to gain access to Hannah's home as a housekeeper.
Now Hannah Carter, she is married to a wealthy business living in a plush townhouse with a beautiful baby. Claire's plan is to destroy Hannah's life as Hannah destroyed hers and to gain a confession about her past actions, but all is not as it seems.
There is tensions throughout the plot, with twists and turns which are difficult to see coming. Cleverly, there is sympathy for both Hannah and Claire. Right until the end, you do not know who to believe. Some of the subjects touched on can be a little difficult to read and perhaps a little graphic, but they are not written for the sake of it, but essential to the story.
