You have 2 story lines going on: Billy and Eve. They look normal on the outside, as if they have their whole life figured out, but in the inside they are lost souls and one could be described as a ticking time bomb. But when they are together, they complete each other, truly soul mates in every possible way.
I won't give the story away, other than to say this story is way more than just a love story. It's two lost souls coming together and finding each other but also finding themselves and who they are. Unfortunately the ending that I hate so much-I hate it because it's a very realistic ending. It does not end on a happy note. The drama in this book-the big mystery I refuse to mention is HUGE, ENORMOUS, in some ways catastrophic.
So it does not end on a happy note. When secrets are revealed, sometimes as much as you love someone, you have to let them go so that they can figure out who they are without the other person and that's the part I hated. I wanted a HEA, but the story doesn't end here.
I am hoping if I bug Eleanor long enough she will write the conclusion to Eve and Billy's story (not that I haven't loved the other books she has written but I want to know what happens, NOW!). :)
This book reminded me of Archer’s Voice—of the one person who is able to connect with a unique and special individual. But Billy also has some intense things going on in his own life. The obstacles facing both Eve and Billy don’t make for an easy road for this couple. And then even more heartbreaking revelations are made. Gotta tell the truth, my heart was cut out of my chest and flopping around on the ground like a fish by the end of this novel. Only the very best authors are able to draw this kind of emotion out of me.
GAH, I could not put this book down and now I NEED the next book, like, YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!! Will they be able to overcome the odds? Will they be able to heal each other’s brokenness? We neeeeeeeeeeeed to know!
If the answer to either of those questions, is yes, then you’ll know that you don’t need to continue to read this review. Actually, by now you should have already one-clicked and this beauty should be loading on your Kindle.
If the answer is no, well then, I encourage you to take a chance and experience every emotion this beautiful book has to offer—to finally understand what it means to suffer from a real book hangover.
I want to preface by saying that I read hundreds of romance books. Most of the time, I can usually devour a book within a day and pick up the next one and carry on. On the rare occasion, I come across a book that leaves me hanging on just a little bit longer.
Housing Elephants isn’t your typical everyday fluffy romance story. The story you’ll find within these pages is real, heartbreaking, and at times so emotional, you may need to take a moment to realize it is a just a story.
Or is it?
Ms. Lloyd- Jones does a phenomenal job of painting Billy and Eve’s world. Her words are powerful, making you feel every single emotion her characters feel. You’re not reading their story—you’re living it. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll want to crawl through the pages and wrap your arms around these characters because you can’t help but feel their pain and anguish. You’ll root for Billy and Eve from the very beginning, because there are no two other characters more deserving of love—more deserving of a happily ever after.
I won’t go into the details of the story, because I think the blurb does a fine job at doing just that, but if I haven’t convinced you to one-click this wonderful book as of yet, perhaps these few lines might…
“Eve, I barely know you, but this is the craziest I have ever felt around anyone. I can’t make you any promises, and I cannot predict the future, but right here, right now, with you, this is the most alive I have ever felt.”
“This needs to be so slow. I’ve never done this before. Ever. Okay?”
“I don’t want promises. I just want to know you, Eve. I just want to learn you by heart.”
Thank you, Eleanor, for sharing your talent with the rest of us—for giving us a chance to meet and fall in love with your beautiful, broken characters. You have a fan for life. One who is anxiously awaiting the second installment in this gut-wrenching series.
