About the Author

Raised in a little village in North Wales, a fierce love of books and reading was instilled in Eleanor by her parents from a very early age, and she has vivid memories of reading secretly under the blankets with a torch for hours after lights out, often getting caught! She was blown away by The Borribles Trilogy - Michael De Larrabeiti at nine years old, and it was then that she fell head over heels with idea of imaginary worlds. A persistent and professional daydreamer, something she still prides herself on being, she spent most of her early childhood inside her own head making up stories or scenarios, climbing trees, building dens or doing anything arts and crafty. Music also played a huge part of her young life. Growing up on The Beatles, U2 and Status Quo, her obsession with Top of the Pops and vinyl twelve inches grew into a love affair with music that has only grown and expanded over time: there is rarely a moment where music is not playing in her life, and in turn, rarely a time when she is not singing, even if it is in her head! She had always thought she would write a book some day - it has been an ambition for as long as she can remember - and has always been told that she ‘has a way with words’. Over the years, she’s dabbled in the odd piece of prose, helped friends to write letters and résumés and prides herself on her hilarious lyrical genius when composing poems for friends birthdays! Life, however, got in the way and her dream was stored on the back burner as she put herself through university and started a family. It was only when she was nearing the ‘forty’ milestone that she decided it was time she got some of the ramblings and chatterings in her head down on paper. A creative, guitar-playing mum of one boisterous, but pretty damn cool boy, she classes herself as a Yorkshire gal now after moving to Leeds when she was eleven. Eleanor works full time as a teacher, but grabs every spare minute she can to write; be it on the train, lunchtimes at school or foregoing sleep for an extra hour or two in the evenings. Her hope for the future is for people to fall in love with her characters as much as she does. Not a big ask really!

This book was such an emotional read. I love reading books about characters who connect to the world differently than what we might consider the ‘norm.’ This is definitely the case of Eve, who has severe social anxiety. She’s fascinated by people and loves to draw them, but actual one-one interactions? They terrify her. So when Billy Taylor, a boy she’s met once before and felt a terrifying fascination for, comes into her life again, it’s her worst nightmare. Because Billy hasn’t forgotten about her either. Eve has a go-to mode when she gets freaked out by social situations—she runs. But what happens when Billy follows?

This book reminded me of Archer’s Voice—of the one person who is able to connect with a unique and special individual. But Billy also has some intense things going on in his own life. The obstacles facing both Eve and Billy don’t make for an easy road for this couple. And then even more heartbreaking revelations are made. Gotta tell the truth, my heart was cut out of my chest and flopping around on the ground like a fish by the end of this novel. Only the very best authors are able to draw this kind of emotion out of me.

GAH, I could not put this book down and now I NEED the next book, like, YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!! Will they be able to overcome the odds? Will they be able to heal each other’s brokenness? We neeeeeeeeeeeed to know!

Housing Elephants was a perfect example how love forms; slow, steady, and being gentle with one another nut you known that person is for you. I felt that the love story within these pages hold so much more truth than most novels do anymore. I fell in love and was blown away by this book. It has been ages since a book actually knocked me back. The moment the title made sense literally made my knees weak and I had to force myself into a chair.
An incredible read! I look forward to the next.

If I could give TEN stars I would. I had this book about two weeks before I started reading it. Wow, why did I ever wait?! It was fantastic! Eve and Billy may be one of my very favorite book couple of all time. You can feel the damage of Eve's childhood and the pain from Billy's past. They go through so much. Each of them are so broken you wonder how if at all they can work it out. Every time Eve tries to push Billy away he fights for her. Sometimes though, fighting for love isn't enough. There are a lot of ugly cries in this book. Housing Elephants was worth every tissue (and there were a lot) I used while reading this book.

This is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. From the first page you will fall in love with Billy and Eve as they navigate uncharted territory and learn what it means to love someone completely.
My heart went out to Eve. I couldn't even imagine living with the anxiety that she lived with every single day. The feeling of not being good enough, doing something wrong, not living up to the standard. The reason was even more heartbreaking.
Billy knew he loved her the first time he saw her. She was it for him. Then he left. Torn away from any hope of something that he knows would be the most important thing in his life. But family obligations far outweigh the feelings of a lovestruck teen. Who knew it would all begin again with a lost sketch book?
The patience that Billy had with Eve was amazing. So often in romance novels characters fall in instalove by the third page. This isn't that kind of book. This is the book that makes you fall in love with these characters one word at a time. You know their struggle, and feel their pain. When Billy's hits him you feel it. When Eve runs, you feel the wet grass on your feet. Their friendship is simply beautiful and what happens next is spellbinding.
I have never wanted two characters to heal as much as I wanted Eve and Billy to. They are truly two parts of a whole. Everyone sees it, from Eve's friend to her mother, to Billy's roommate's mother. These two have a connection that goes beyond a typical college romance. Most adults don't have what Billy and Eve have.
The ending had me in tears. It was so real. To say I can't wait until the next book would be an understatement.
This is simply one of the best debut novels I have ever read.

Housing Elephants by Author Eleanor Lloyd-Jones
4.5 Stars

Wow! This DEBUT novel from Eleanor Lloyd- Jones was just wonderful. It was full of raw emotion that left you reeling and yearning for more. It was heartbreaking and beautiful all at once.

Eve is someone who has been through traumatic events in her life and because of it, has major anxieties in her every day life. She isn’t sure what happened to her, she just knows her over bearing mother made life fairy difficult on her.

Billy was such a wonderful character. I loved his unconditional love for others and the way he wanted nothing more than to help Eve. They always felt connected to each other but because of Eve’s problems, he was forced to chase her- literally at some point. Watching these two characters develop was wonderful.

Housing Elephants is FULL of trigger points, turning points, and heart wrenching realism as you realize that these are problems every day people deal with. Seeing the two overcome everything together was beautiful. The novel was a bit slow for me in the beginning, but it picked up so quickly and as questions started being answered, I had to keep turning the pages to feel satisfied. But one page turned into ten and then ten turned into five chapters and before I knew it, I had finished it in one sitting. The fact that it ends with “to be continued” and the fact that the beginning was a little slow for me, is why it doesn’t receive a full five stars. When I hit 100% on my Kindle, I had tears flowing constantly from my eyes and my heart was aching. I need more and I am so excited to read the next part in the life of Eve and Billy.

Congratulations, Author Eleanor Lloyd-Jones! You did a beautiful job!!
