This book reminded me of Archer’s Voice—of the one person who is able to connect with a unique and special individual. But Billy also has some intense things going on in his own life. The obstacles facing both Eve and Billy don’t make for an easy road for this couple. And then even more heartbreaking revelations are made. Gotta tell the truth, my heart was cut out of my chest and flopping around on the ground like a fish by the end of this novel. Only the very best authors are able to draw this kind of emotion out of me.
GAH, I could not put this book down and now I NEED the next book, like, YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!! Will they be able to overcome the odds? Will they be able to heal each other’s brokenness? We neeeeeeeeeeeed to know!
An incredible read! I look forward to the next.
My heart went out to Eve. I couldn't even imagine living with the anxiety that she lived with every single day. The feeling of not being good enough, doing something wrong, not living up to the standard. The reason was even more heartbreaking.
Billy knew he loved her the first time he saw her. She was it for him. Then he left. Torn away from any hope of something that he knows would be the most important thing in his life. But family obligations far outweigh the feelings of a lovestruck teen. Who knew it would all begin again with a lost sketch book?
The patience that Billy had with Eve was amazing. So often in romance novels characters fall in instalove by the third page. This isn't that kind of book. This is the book that makes you fall in love with these characters one word at a time. You know their struggle, and feel their pain. When Billy's hits him you feel it. When Eve runs, you feel the wet grass on your feet. Their friendship is simply beautiful and what happens next is spellbinding.
I have never wanted two characters to heal as much as I wanted Eve and Billy to. They are truly two parts of a whole. Everyone sees it, from Eve's friend to her mother, to Billy's roommate's mother. These two have a connection that goes beyond a typical college romance. Most adults don't have what Billy and Eve have.
The ending had me in tears. It was so real. To say I can't wait until the next book would be an understatement.
This is simply one of the best debut novels I have ever read.
Wow! This DEBUT novel from Eleanor Lloyd- Jones was just wonderful. It was full of raw emotion that left you reeling and yearning for more. It was heartbreaking and beautiful all at once.
Eve is someone who has been through traumatic events in her life and because of it, has major anxieties in her every day life. She isn’t sure what happened to her, she just knows her over bearing mother made life fairy difficult on her.
Billy was such a wonderful character. I loved his unconditional love for others and the way he wanted nothing more than to help Eve. They always felt connected to each other but because of Eve’s problems, he was forced to chase her- literally at some point. Watching these two characters develop was wonderful.
Housing Elephants is FULL of trigger points, turning points, and heart wrenching realism as you realize that these are problems every day people deal with. Seeing the two overcome everything together was beautiful. The novel was a bit slow for me in the beginning, but it picked up so quickly and as questions started being answered, I had to keep turning the pages to feel satisfied. But one page turned into ten and then ten turned into five chapters and before I knew it, I had finished it in one sitting. The fact that it ends with “to be continued” and the fact that the beginning was a little slow for me, is why it doesn’t receive a full five stars. When I hit 100% on my Kindle, I had tears flowing constantly from my eyes and my heart was aching. I need more and I am so excited to read the next part in the life of Eve and Billy.
Congratulations, Author Eleanor Lloyd-Jones! You did a beautiful job!!

It's a rewarding story that gets off to a slow start. The storyline is good, a little sad, but leaves me thinking love may conquer all in the next book.Published 4 months ago by Avid reader
