Phillips: I've known most of these men since theystarted bass fishing. From the inception of tournament bass fishing, I've beengoing to national professional fishing tournaments, meeting and interviewingthe pros, and on many occasions I've fished in the same boats with them atBassmaster Classics and sponsored tournaments all over the country. The men inthis book are friends of mine who work and play in the same profession that Ido, and are willing to share their knowledge with me.
Question: What is it you like about bassfishing and being with professional bass fishermen?
Phillips: I like bass fishing, because it's a sport Ibegan to participate in when all I had to do was drop a minnow next to a log ona line attached to a cane pole, and fight the bass with that limber pole. Eventhrough all the changes and the new technology that's been introduced to thissport, I still enjoy that tug on the line and that wild bass fighting forfreedom when it comes out of the water and shakes its head. I like being aroundprofessional bass fishermen, because many of them are some of the bestbusinessmen I've ever met and the great ones are gifted with a high degree ofpeople skills. They're fun folks to hang-out with, and they've also been my teachersand my mentors.
