First listening to this album gave me mixed reviews, however, after multiple listens, it grows on me. I got the album initially for God Undefeatable but love your neighbor and give what's in you hand are good as well. For the most part, this album plays like a folk music/worship album. The heavy guitar/blues sound as almost all but gone on this record. Having said that though, the lyricism is so deep like for example "love your neighbor doesn't ask me if I fully understand". I feel that god is really moving on the heart of this musician to really show who God really is. I disagree with jesusfreakhideout's analysis of this record in that it would have minimal impact in the Christian music scene. I beg to differ. This album doesn't have a strong rock and roll vibe to it. But I believe many challenges and good questions that, if we allow God to work fully in our lives, would be answered. This album is really reflective and is a nice changeup from his previous louder albums. I get the sense that Todd Agnew is really trying to seek out the real Jesus here.

Todd Agnew, the worship leader, musician and songwriter behind hit songs "Grace Like Rain" and "My Jesus," is unveiling his newest collection of music, How to be Loved. Opening song "The One You Want" was co-written with Jason Ingram, and displays a softer side of Todd Agnew who opened his first three albums with the rockers "Reached Down," "Something Beautiful" and "Still Has A Hold." Agnew's last album Need ushered in Todd's `joy unspeakable' of being a newlywed and his trademark songwriting expressing biblical truth in personal lyrics including the standout song "Did You Mean Me?" If you like that song, then don't miss out on How to be Loved which is chock full of Todd's personal thoughts on love and life the way God see us instead of from our broken perspective. Todd opens the album with the lyrics: "I can't let You see me this way." That's how we all feel with God a lot of the time. We're ashamed of who we are and want to repair ourselves before turning to Him. The vulnerable and personal song declares: "It's hard for me to believe I could be lovely in Your eyes, that I'm really the one You want...And You love me, You love me still, You love me and You always will." The next song, "Love Your Neighbor" keeps that theme going and reminds me of Todd's great song "On A Corner In Memphis." The bridge sums up the theme of the album, "You want me to finally be a reflection of You and You are Love." Amen.

Agnew continues with the radio single "God Undefeatable." "`Undefeatable' isn't really even a word," Agnew explains. "It isn't a word because it's never needed to be a word. Every empire, every dynasty, they all eventually lost. They faded. They were defeated. But God, His power, His might does not wane. It goes back to the idea we started with. God is the main player in the story.

Starting the review out by saying that Something Beautiful is hands down my favorite Christian album (and probably fav all together). It is loaded with honest questions, doubts, struggles, faith and worship. Agnew always brings something to the table that is different, refreshing and challenging, but Something Beautiful was, in my opinion, the flagship of his style. The song My Jesus was used to bring me to a more serious and real level with my walk in Christ.
I also want to note that Need fell a little flat with me. It seemed a little rushed, and a little less challenging to me spiritually. I am not into 95% of Christian music only because it is a emotional high, rather than true honest worship, something you actually learn from. Need felt to me as more fluffy and easy going than his other albums. While I don't dislike the album, it was not something that challenged my thinking, nor developed a sense of wonder for the person of God.

How to Be Loved is a great mixture of Agnew's insightful struggles and victories that are a part of real Christian living. He brings a refreshing and rare Bilical approach to his lyrics. However, it is also full of uplifting worship music as well. But even the songs that are uplifting do not use the flat, monotonous and empty verses of "I love God, God is good, I love God, Good is great" garbage that plagues modern Christian music today.

So, in the end, I give it 4 stars. It is a awesome album, and a great mixture of uplifting, but challenging music. I would have given it 5 stars, but the album is incredibly short (11 songs, about 3-4 minutes each). Would have loved to have a couple more songs.
My favorite songs on the album:
The One You Want
Love Your Neighbor
Loved
House of Boxes

So happy to have more music from Todd. This is a softer, gentler Todd, but just as endearing to me."Don't You Think", "You're Good," "Gloria", I mention these but in reality I truly love them all. His prayer/songs to his Lord. & reflections of his own life , greatly appreciated. Every evening I play a little "Todd" before sleep. It is a blessing to me.

Once again, Todd Agnew has created a new record with musical diversity, profound truth, and great worship. Beneath the impressive music and vocals, there are so many layers of provocative, convicting truth (Give What's In Your Hand, Love Your Neighbor), unique storytelling (Don't You Think), soulful aching (There's Coming A Day), powerful theology (God Undefeatable), loving worship (You Are Good, Your Great Name), and raw vulnerability (The One You Want, Letting Go, House of Boxes, Loved).

I can't urge you strongly enough to buy this CD and get several extra copies for your friends. Why? Because everyone needs to be loved! These songs will touch your heart in the deep and broken places and will point you to Jesus as healer and love
