“There are lots of things to love about Caitlin Moran’s How to Be a Woman….A glorious, timely stand against sexism so ingrained we barely even notice it. It is, in the dour language [Moran] militates so brilliantly against, a book that needed to be written.” (New York Times)
From the Back Cover
Though they have the vote and the Pill and haven't been burned as witches since 1727, life isn't exactly a stroll down the catwalk for modern women. They are beset by uncertainties and questions: Why are they supposed to get Brazilians? Why do bras hurt? Why the incessant talk about babies? And do men secretly hate them?
Caitlin Moran interweaves provocative observations on women's lives with laugh-out-loud funny scenes from her own, from the riot of adolescence to her development as a writer, wife, and mother. With rapier wit, Moran slices right to the truth—whether it's about the workplace, strip clubs, love, fat, abortion, popular entertainment, or children—to jump-start a new conversation about feminism. With humor, insight, and verve, How To Be a Woman lays bare the reasons why female rights and empowerment are essential issues not only for women today but also for society itself.--This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Five stars - not because I agreed with everything she wrote (b/c I did not), but because of her matter of fact approach, unapologetic (yet tactful) nature in expressing her opinions, and all the while coupled with a good laugh -- I indeed let outages good snorts on an airplane while blazing through this book.
There were parts where I winced with disagreement, but other times where she talks about long argued points with a fresh perspective... and even a few inspiring times as well - especially as a reader of the same as as when she wrote this.
This book was like taking to the author about life experiences over a bottle or two of wine. Both tongue in cheek, but still very real and heartfelt at the truth of it. Well done!
SPOILER ALERT: Her language and content are to the left of left, irreverent, brutal, honest, and sometimes daunting for a middle aged woman from the Southern US; however, spot-on and worth every single, indulgent minute. Moms, sisters, grandmas, aunts, and godmothers should buy this book for their younger female gendered AND their male counterparts, but READ it first, and give it to them after their 17th birthday.
