"As a single mom who went from homeless to financially free, Sarah's story is both compelling and inspiring. Filled with brutal honesty & no-holds-barred straight talk, How to Become Financially Freeoffers real life advice for even the most difficult of circumstances." - Ruth Soukup, New York Times bestselling author of Living Well, Spending Less: 12 Secrets of the Good Life, Living Well Spending Less
"In her book, How to Become Financially Free, Sarah offers real, how-to advice from her own experience. She points out the most candid but most frequently overlooked problem when it comes to financial struggles. The blame is not a shortage of money...the problem is us!" - Sandi Levi, Councilwoman-Elect
"As my husband and I are currently trying to become debt-free, Sarah Titus' new book, How to Become Financially Free, has been a great encouragement and resource. Her honest stories of her own experience have helped encourage me that we're making the right choices. Plus, she's given me ideas of other ways we can become debt-free. I especially appreciated her perspective that financial freedom truly is good stewardship of God's resources." - Hilary Bernstein, HilaryBernstein.com
"I read Sarah Titus' book How To Become Financially Free and felt so encouraged by her story. What an inspirational journey and breath of fresh air she offers in this book and on her website! Sarah's book gives easy to understand and manageable chapters of information in a way that leaves the reader feeling empowered. Readers will feel equipped to tackle debt and begin their journey to financial freedom." - Kelly Cox, Kelly Cox At Home
I didn't notice that this was a Christian slanted book, but even if that aspect doesn't appeal to you, this is still a good read for getting one's financial house in order. The basics are pretty much the same as the Dave Ramsey teachings, but Titus presents it in a tone that makes it feel like you're just talking to a good friend and getting some solid advice based on her own experience. She even includes her own realistic human failings, something that is quite normal anytime we're trying to break old habits and form new behaviors. It's the picking up and keeping moving in the right direction after a fall that will see one through to the goal. Though I didn't learn much new because I'm already working with the Ramsey method, I did pick up encouragement to just hang in there from someone who hit a rather low spot, figured out her "why" for digging out, and who has achieved a comfort level that is realistic. There are a few typos in there, but not enough that I felt it necessary to ding a star.
Definitely a great motivator to start saving & thinking logically about finances & the future! Includes some great, helpful fill-in-the-blank documents at the end to get you started (financial saving structures/checklists/etc. that worked for her & can get readers started on their own saving rather than having to start from scratch & figure out their own system). It's also encouraging to read her HONEST story; she doesn't try to make herself seem like she's had it all together from the beginning. She tells the mistakes she made, & that inspires readers to believe, "Hey, I don't have to be perfect at this. She made mistakes just like I make mistakes. I just have to start & I can get to financial freedom, too!" I also love that it's pretty short. Lots of useful content, but she's brief & to the point It's wonderful for the reader that either doesn't enjoy reading or doesn't have much time to read (I fall in that latter category).
This book has given me so many tips on getting the life that I want!
We are working hard to get out of debt this year, and this book was one of the key inspirations in doing so. Sarah writes on a personal level, and makes you believe that you CAN accomplish this goal. She shares her own experience, and practical advice for anyone looking to become debt free. I applaud Sarah for sharing her darkest hours, so that others may learn and benefit from her experience.
I have purchased several other books of Sarah's and can't wait to see what she comes up with next !
This book contains a lot of excellent ideas on was to make and save your money. I already do a lot of the things she talks about in this book but found several new ideas that I will be trying. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for new ideas on making your life free of debt and more financially secure!
I loved this book! The author not only takes you on the path she travelled from living in a homeless shelter to where she is today but she also talks about steps that YOU the reader can do to not get into a financial hole. Like myself, the author is a Christian woman and there are some religious quotes sprinkled throughout the book. It took me about an hour to read the book and I'm sure i will refer to it often. Theres a really nice bonus on the last page so don't forget to check it out. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone dealing with debt--its a refreshing book told by a real person in an easy to understand format.
