About the Author
Laverne H. (Pollak) Bardy’s first writing job was as editor of her children’s Parent Teacher Association’s monthly newsletter, "Hotline." She also worked with the school system’s psychologist to create behavior modification skits that were presented to teachers and students, and she collaborated in writing a play that would aid in cementing fractured relations between teachers and parents. The play, titled “Family Circus,” brought rave reviews and succeeded in its goal of repairing relations between parents and teachers. Bardy spent several years writing press releases for fund raisers and organizations, for the West Essex Tribune. Assignments for "Northern Horizons" and "Montague" magazines had her exercising her journalism skills, but it didn’t take long for her to realize that straight reporting did not allow for her need to write creatively, and with humor. In 1999 she was offered an opportunity to have her own column, LAVERNE'S VIEW in a regional New Jersey newspaper, "50 Plus Monthly." Her humourous, often irreverent, slant on life in general, and aging in particular, drew a large readership. She has been syndicated with "Senior Wire News Service" since 2004. Her column is read in newspapers internationally. She has written for magazines, and her work is included in many anthologies, and a college text book. She was interviewed twice for "Bottom Line Retirement." How The (Bleep) Did I Get This Old? is a compilation of the best of those columns. Bardy attended University of Miami and Upsala College.

But, from what I know vicariously, her insights are filled with humorous truths. I’m glad that after 23 years of being single again she remarries. I especially liked her battling her weight and wearing heels-something I never mastered well and am glad I'm now old enough to be off the hook.
Like a best friend writing, her thoughts about life a treasure. Try it. You’ll like it.
SO when I placed the church lady in the car, I asked her if she'd like to hear some funny stories. She agreed, so I proceeded to read to her for the 25 miles back to church. She giggled and even laughed out loud on occasion, which tickled me because she has an adorable laugh.
After church, I walked with her arm-in-arm down the steps leading outside. One step at a time, creaking and wheezing all the way, then using her asthma inhaler at the bottom of the steps, the church lady leaned in to me and intimated, "Old Age is a Bitch, ain't it?"
I hadn't realized just how much attention she had paid to my reading until after she'd caught her breath. This book is a must read. AND the print is rather large... so get one for yourself and all the older ladies in your life. You'll be their new BFF!
You have a small bladder because you won't stop laughing in time to ... you know.
You are trying to look somber at a funeral, church service or library.
You don't like laughing until the muscles in both of your sides hurt like a toothache.
You are nowhere near a box of Kleenex to wipe all the laughter tears from your watery eyes.
You are a teenager ... believe me, you won't get it. Read it later, like in fifty years.
But IF you are NOT any of the above, then do something nice for yourself TODAY. Treat your funny bone to Laverne Bardy's wonderful book, HOW THE (BLEEP) DID I GET THIS OLD. You'll be ever so glad you did. Trust me on this!
