The book is written well, like a patient instructor who is in no rush, and they cover almost everything I need, start to finish, to build a rudimentary stone home. I would still check out some other sources, but this book covers at least 90% of what I need to know.
With that said, good things can come in small packages. This book is a fairly good starting point and a general primer for slipform stone building. It proposes a number of good ideas and outlines a general a-z method for an owner built stone home. It also espouses some good philosophies for the builder to have, particularly in the way of saving money.
I wish someone would reprint this book, as it would be an absolute must-have for $5 or $6, but with copies bringing upwards of $30, I'd say its more of a discretionary purchase than a prerequisite to stone building. Still, it does come recommended.
