I’m not a liberal or a conservative, but I thought I might get a couple useful tips - or at least understand more about how conservatives practice the art of debate. There’s really nothing here of value. It would have been light as a Medium article. As a Kindle single, it’s a ripoff.

I cherish Ben's ideas and values. And, if only I'd one nano-fraction of his intellect.... but .... reading him is way easier than listening to him. Maybe it's a geriatric thing that only applies to slower brains such as mine; when Ben speaks (see YouTube) he leaves me gasping for oxygen. He jam-packs every spoken paragraph with cascades of complex ideas and facts. This would be fine even for the likes of me. Or it would be if only he would just slow down his word delivery rate and modulate his voice to something a tad less like machine gun fire. Now this book, on the other hand, is a whole other thing. Concise, carefully considered and well-paced, thus making, easy and quick to read and recall. This of course makes it super- accessible. I have to buy a hard copy so I don't have to loan out my Kindle. Each of my fellow right-wing extremists (tasteless joke here) and my more open-minded, lefty mates need to read it. What a brilliant summary of modern political sanity this is! Normally I avoid political argumenta like the plague. Especially with the loonier left. -- that wall of simmering righteousness is usually too daunting. However, now that I have taken Ben's condensed crash course in rational political sanity my mind is on fire. I can now at least consider joining the polarised debate that is killing our democracy.

While I was excited about the premise of this book, it feels like it was thrown together. The grammar is terrible. Typos out the wazoo. Shorter than I anticipated but I ended up being glad about that because it was so painful to read. Most of the arguments were barely supported. I did pick up a few good tips ( hardly 11 though) so that's the only reason I didn't give it one star. Sorry Ben.

I bought this book so I could have a better understanding of how to properly respond to someone on the left when debating them. The book is absolutely helpful. It basically has different rules to remember while debating some on the left. The rules are easy to remember and makes a lot of sense. Ben uses examples from his debates where he implemented the rules and was successful. Overall good book if you are looking for guidance on how to beat anyone on the left in a debate.

If you find yourself talking to leftists, you will find yourself dealing with their tactic of personal destruction. It's what they do. It's literally all they have and their assaults are predictable. Shapiro talls about being prepared. He talks about how to do so. If you're defending yourself against leftist character assassination, you need this book now. It's a quick, empowering read.

Tallest man alive Ben Shapiro, but you man know him from his popular pop punk band “Benny and the jerks” attempts to misremember modern history during the 2012 election and quietly redefines debate from the open exchange of ideas in a public forum to “debate” which now means yelling at children to seem smart even if it makes you a nazi. Stick to pop punk there Benny and let the people with hand that aren’t clammy at all times discuss public policy

This was mostly how to knock out a liberal before they get a good punch. The assumption is that all their arguments are specious and won't stand up to a serious argument. A quick little book with many good points, but not a lot of fodder for the cannon.

This is a quick read and lists 11 common rules most debaters already know. What is fascinating is the language it is framed in tailor made for its niche market (nice use of rules 3 & 4).

Very short and not exactly earth shattering.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 14, 2018Verified Purchase
A very short book and not exactly earth shattering. Most of the rules he comes up with are simply common sense at best, and statement of the bleeding obvious at worst. For example, he advises the reader to admit when you don’t know something – not to try and bluff your way through because you’ll be caught out. (My paraphrase). One wonders who was Ben Shapiro’s target readership? Seems to me it was young school kids.
Although the title of the book is “How to Debate with Leftists and Destroy Them: 11 Rules for Winning the Argument” the so called 11 rules are in fact applicable not only to debating with people from the left but debating with anyone. He spends a great deal of time relishing and reminiscing how he got the better of Piers Morgan in an interview over gun control. Piers Morgan is not exactly someone I would describe as a leftist. He’s an ardent Trump supporter for a start and writes for the Mail on Sunday.
That said, for someone who really is a complete novice at structuring an argument and is unused to arguing a point with an opponent; there may be some benefit in reading this; otherwise save your money.

Common sense stuff...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2019Verified Purchase
Well first this was a very short and quick read. So short I finished it in half an hour so it’s value for money came up just about nil. Secondly, any competent academic or street wise debater has the common sense and ability to refute an argument that involves a character attack not backed by evidence. It is one of the first values of critical thinking. As soon as you attack the person you lose the argument...period! This common sense tactic was repeated to often in the book. The book also overtly criticised Piers Morgan too much. Not that I am a huge fan of Piers but it made it look there was a bit of a grudge match between him and the author. I am however a fan of Ben Shapiro but remind me not to buy any more of his books as this one was totally disappointing!

Fake News

I didn't believe much in fake news and biased media until I came across the infamous interview between Cathy Newman and Jordan Peterson on Channel 4, and also following the hearing on justice Brett Kavanaugh. More and more we see the use of political correctness to stifle legitimate debate. This little booklet by Ben Shapiro is a helpful counter to the curse of political correctness and its insidious manipulation.

Short and right to the point with zero padding.

This book is priced to sell as a clear and concise instruction manual to achieve what it clearly states - debating the left and its lies.
You could read it in under an hour but do not underestimate its contents. Less than one hour arms you with a very, very solid foundation for dealing with liberals tricks - centered on attacking the messenger and not dealing with the debate. It will take real world debating practice to hone talent/nerves but its a damn good launch pad.
Good read. Very good.

Angry book - I think we get it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 10, 2019Verified Purchase
If you’ve wAtched any of Ben’s stuff on youtube you’ll know what a really sharp and intensely intelligent chap he is. I sympathise with his frustration with bigots - but I’m not sure this book does him much credit. Piers Morgan has made a career out of making other people uncomfortable by hiding behind the cowardly shield of 3rd rate media - so it’s always good to see him buried by someone with real intellect but in this case Ben is just pulling the wings off of a fly - it’s not clever - he could and should IMHO been a little more subtle- which would have been more effective. All in all I was a bit disappointed. He does seem to be very “right” about everything. Some humility wouldn’t go amiss I think. A bit of an angry book by someone who just seems very angry is what I will remember- which doesn’t really do him credit.
