Waverly’s approach to restoring life and happiness to marriages that seem destined for divorce is so accessible that we can only wish there were Waverly J. Hansons in every town – but now with her in home and online training her skills are becoming better known.
Simply looking at the chapters into which she divides her book gives an idea of her solid, sown to earth approach: Where’s Your Marriage? - Love, Dreams, Goals; Become a Detective on Yourself!
Self-Awareness; Self-Care; Self-Talk; Is Living with You Fun? - Love Languages; More Tools for Your Toolbox!; How Are You Hard-Wired?; The Mirroring Tool!; How Are You Connecting? - Conflict Management; Clarify Core Values – Character?; Heed Warning Signs!; Move from Chaos to Peace - Life Maintenance Plans?; Change Your Dance, Not Your Partner!; and Fun, Launching Out…..
In her Introduction she shares her survey of marriages with problems: ‘Except for untreated substance abuse (including alcohol); emotional, verbal, physical, and sexual abuses of all kinds; and mental illnesses and deliberate illegal activities, I believe that most of the problems people choose to get a divorce over are very solvable. Do you know that staying married has the best outlook for happiness? Of those unhappy couples who managed somehow to stay married, after five years, almost 80% of the previously unhappy couples were now happily married, and a smaller group reported themselves as very happily married. This research is by the Institute for American Values. Many couples I have worked with over the years have reported, after working together, they were much more “in love” with one another. They also stated they did not know why they earlier thought they had needed a divorce. They did also say they just had not known what to do. My work with hundreds of couples indicates that most couples really do not want a divorce but want the pain between them to stop. They often are rushing into the idea of divorce because they are in so much pain, even if they don’t always show it on the outside.’
This is more than a book – this is a training course, an opportunity to examine relationships and fix the cracks and in Waverly’s steady hand that relationship can be restored and even glow brighter. Grady Harp, May 16
She enumerates the seven stages of marriage from Stage 1, Passion and Romance; through Stage 3, Rebellion and Power Struggle to Stage 7, Completion and Fulfilment. Of course many couples do not get past Stage 3 to move onto Stage 4, Stability and Reconciliation. What a waste of all those wonderful beginnings, with the euphoria of love and attraction, when all irritants in the partner miraculously seem irrelevant and insignificant.
At the end of the book, Waverly Hanson offers an online course of counselling individuals or couple
The writing is incredibly simple and easy to follow. The suggestions are easily implemented although some must be regularly practiced until they become habit. The author has an easy writing style and the book is both an enjoyable and informative read. We all deserve to have happy relationship and I'm a firm believer in spreading the good pieces of advice that the author suggests.
Every female in the whole wide world (and male) needs to read this book. This book was full of 'ah-hah!' moments for me and I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to feel better in a relationship every day. This book is definitely well worth reading.
