About the Author
I know all of your sorry excuses for not settling down to write your book, because I invented them. I know exactly how to start a novel, then shove it in the drawer at page 84. I know exactly how to complete the fourth draft of a memoir, then stick it in the closet behind that pair of jeans I can't wear anymore. I know how to write, and rewrite, and rewrite some more, then give up because I think the process should be so much easier. I know all about doubt, and fear, and procrastination, and perfectionism.... In other words, I've got your number, Sweetheart. I began my practice as a writing coach, not just because I like bossing people around, which I do, but also because I know all of the ridiculous excuses writers use to screw themselves up. I dig browbeating creative types just like you into developing a consistent writing practice, and getting their work out the door. The way I see it, my job is to kick your tail until you complete the first sh*tty draft because, with the exception of starting the project in the first place, that's the hardest part of the process. Then, and only then, can you begin revising the thing, then choosing a method of publication. For those who like credentials: I received my Masters in Creative Writing and Literature from Harvard University. My first publication, "Not Without My Mother", appeared in The Charles River Review in 2002. My husband and I split our time between Canton, Connecticut and County Cork, Ireland.
