Top review from the United States

Guy defends Cathy Merrill's editorial threatening her workforce with contractor status if they don't return to the office, saying her only mistake was tipping her hand publicly. There's a reason they immediately went on strike and thousands of people attacked Cathy for dreaming of days when people all schlepped off to a central office and nice office ladies took on the unpaid work of making the office feel like home with cake and whatnot.

I've been working remotely, full and part-time, since 2006. Jack isn't going to help you understand the world of remote work, teams, mentoring, and management, because he doesn't understand it. He does however seem set to continue with this other 20th-c idea: squeezing your workforce, and paying as little as possible by hook or by crook, making employee categories that allow you to rob some employees of labor legally. I don't really think people are set to accept that sort of maltreatment at this point, and I suspect that employers who try it will be in for the same treatment the Washingtonian staff gave Merrill whether they write op-eds about it or not.

You can do better.
