A pre-Monty Python British TV special which starred and was written by John Cleese and Graham Chapman, with Michael Palin and two or three other non-Pythons as actors, that will make you laugh and--if you follow the movie's instructions--highly unpopular, though that is, in fact, the point. There is a lot of great (and truly irritating) material in this movie. Scenes such as the restaurant sketch with John Cleese and Connie Booth; the car sales-man (an early form of the parrot sketch, so I am told), the bored pilots telling their crew not to panic, no the wings aren't on fire, please get out your life-jackets from above your heads, but do not leave your seats. My Favorite Show from the Monty Python gang

I don't think this one is officially "Monty Python," but the gang is almost all there, and they deliver a stellar performance.
This show is a series of skits, making it great for parties. You can turn it on in 1 room, and people can wander in and out and get some quick laughs.
Doubtless you will recognize many of the skits, as they have been posted all over the internet, but this DVD makes a lovely canon of skits.

Good collection of sketches

Don't expect this to be Monthy Python's Flying Circus, but do expect some funny sketches and a good laugh. The best of it, in my opinion, is to see John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Michael Palin together before they formed MP. Also, let's not forget the participation of the great Tim Brooke-Taylor and Cleese's wife, Connie Booth.

As a big fan of both John Cleese and Monty Python, I think this is classic comedy - for those who hare the right mentality for this unique brand of humor. Typical Monty Python and John Cleese carries it off well. One to not miss. You might even pick up some tips, as the title suggests!

Boring. Unfunny. Actually irritating to watch. Which I guess makes it a brilliant meta-comedy...

No. It's boring, unfunny, and irritating to watch. The second half is a bit better. There are several pieces which were later re-used in Monty Python -- some vastly reworked (Groveling Waiter, Quiz Show), some recreated almost verbatim (Job Interview). At least one sketch (Discussion Show) was reprised from "At Last the 1948 Show," which Cleese, Chapman and Brooke-Taylor had done (with Marty Feldman) the year before.

As a glimpse of the Pythons just before they became Pythons, it is moderately interesting. As a piece of entertainment, it's not.

This is early work, and the team became much better with experience. People who are into the history and development of the Monty Python humour will enjoy this. But anyone expecting the polished sophistication of "Fawlty Towers" or "Monty Python" is likely to be somewhat disappointed.
