David does it all, and does it so well. His version of 'Summer Wages' will make you rush home and lock up your beloved, before some no-account low down false friend steals her away. Even if YOU don't want her any more. I've been a fan of Bromberg since Moses waded out of the bulrushes and the classic double 'How Late'll Ya Play 'Til?" is my favorite of his old recordings. I always liked the 'studio' side best, but there's something to be said about the energy from the live recordings like 'Will not be your fool'. Since David doesn't make many live appearances any more, you might want to double your pleasure and grab both CDs while you've got the chance. Buy the CDs, then write David, tell him to get busy and whip up some more just like this.

The two "Late'll Ya Play 'Til" albums are my favorites. Originally released in vinyl as a double album, the CDs are individuals. Please buy both. There is some extra stuff that was not on the original LPs for a bonus. If you like these, get "Try Me One More Time" also by David. I've listened to a copy on cassette that pre-dates CDs after hearing the vinyl in 1970 or so and find I still enjoy his rich voice and playing. There is a lot of humor in here as well.

I have loved this LP ever since it came out. I saw David Bromberg about the same time at The Empire Theater in Richmond, Virginia and I can say that this is the real deal. The Bromberg band updated some old classics with joy and good humor as well as stunning musicianship. I cannot imagine anyone except die-hard hip-hop fans not liking this record.

I was lucky enough to be in the Record Biz during his tour for this LP. I always tell all my music-interested fans, his gig at the Troubadour in L.A. rates among my all-time favorite live performances. This double-lp actually displays what he was able to achieve in that tour, although the LIVE side of the LP doesn't reveal it all. David Bromberg, like Asleep At The Wheel, was able to show many different sides of what was happening in the early 70's.
It was how Big Band would've been viewed in a different time frame/genre. The main difference between David and Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel was their background. David had more Blues/Folk roots, while Ray Benson was more Country/Swing/Jazz. Both loved the mixture of brass with strings. Both had top notch end results while touring and recording in the 70's.
Both of these Bromberg volumes of "How Late'll Ya Play Til?" releases are worth the purchase. I give them both 5 stars.

This is my first excursion into Amazon land and thought a Bromberg search would be a good test. Both cd's of "How Late'll ya play 'til?" are easily worth the cost. I admit a bias, but Bromberg treats folk, blues, rock & roll, and even jazz with the same insight and feeling for life.
If you ever have a chance to see him perform, whether solo or if he reforms the band and they do some small blues club, go, just go. You will enjoy yourself.

The better half of a double album that was recorded circa 1976...released as a double album in the late 70's...
It's one of Bromberg's best...he had an amazing back-up band that were spot-on to whatever musical style that
each song called for...a lot of good moments and solid songs with some amazing musicianship!
