Joey Savoie is Co-founder and Director of Strategy of the registered nonprofit Charity Entrepreneurship (www.charityentrepreneurship.com). Founded in 2017, Charity Entrepreneurship is a prestigious research and training organization, launching several high-impact nonprofits every year by connecting aspiring entrepreneurs with effective intervention ideas, training, and funding. To date, Charity Entrepreneurship has incubated 18 highly effective nonprofits, reaching over 5 million humans and improving the lives of 1.2 million animals. Several of them are now recognized as field leaders in their cause areas and within the effective altruism movement.
Prior to Charity Entrepreneurship, Joey co-founded multiple charities including Charity Science, a meta-organization that increased the amount of counterfactual funding going to high-impact charities, and Charity Science Health, a nonprofit that increases vaccination rates in India using mobile phones and behavioral nudges. He has given international lectures on various aspects of charity entrepreneurship and effective altruism in Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, EAG London, EAG San Francisco, Berlin, Basel, Vancouver, and Stockholm. He now lives in London, focusing on scaling up the Charity Entrepreneurship model and mentoring new high-impact nonprofits.
His first co-edited volume “How to Launch a High-Impact Nonprofit” is a collaborative effort with the field’s top thinkers that gives prospective charity entrepreneurs all the tools they need to found an organization that puts impact first, combining lean start-up methodologies with scientific rigor. In short, it neatly packages everything he wishes he would’ve known when he first set out with dreams of changing the world. The book has a unique focus on how to make the most impact with an organization. Instead of covering only the logistics, it asks some of the deeper questions such as when to found a charity, when to shut one down, and how to pick the most important area to work in.
