About the Author
Jamie Turner is an internationally recognized marketing expert and author who has helped The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T, CNN, and other global brands tackle complex business problems. Overall, I think that's what it's all about. This small investment for this book I would say contributed to my goal of ruling the world and enslaving every single peasant by making money though social media.
On a serious note - its a great book. I'd recommend. :)
I have had many job interviews in which I was asked "how can we use social media to make money?" Simply answering "views lead to repeat views and eventually they become customers" was not good enough. This book should have answered the question in more detail, as the title implies.
If this book had a different title, such as "How to start a social media campaign," or "how to measure your social media efforts," I would be completely satisfied. But although the book has good concepts, I am disappointed because the title does not meet the content of the book.
If you're looking to make money immediately with social media, go ahead and put that notion to rest. It's like searching for a unicorn. You can make money with social media. This book provides examples of companies that have been successful at it. It just takes time and a willingness to try new ideas and to stick with them and see them through to the point where you have built an engaged audience that is interested in the information and / or products you offer and is ready to make a purchase.
The key item that separates this book from many other social media books is that it focuses on ROI from real case studies. The authors also took the time to summarize key points at the end of each chapter. As a reader I always love this resource. Also, the contents are formatted nicely so you can look at the Amazon preview copy to determine if this book will answer your specific social/mobile questions before hitting the “buy button.”
Turner and Shah explore in-depth the all important question: “Can I make money with social media?” After all, the authors posit, what’s the point of setting up, launching, and running a social media campaign if it’s not going to make money?
Shah and Turner have some good news to share when it comes to ROI. They’ve discovered that one can make money with social
media—if you follow the right plan. The problem Turner and Shah point out is that many people think that simply updating a Facebook page or uploading a YouTube
video is a social media campaign. It’s not.
The book details how a well-run social media campaign is a program that’s well thought out, well executed, and well managed. It’s set up with a clear set of objectives, strategies, and tactics. Most importantly, it’s designed to ultimately
accomplish one thing: to generate revenue. Everything else is just a stop
along the way.
For Small Businesses, Turner and Shad even delve into their own experiences as business owners to showcase that social media doesn’t have to be time consuming, especially if
you set it up properly from the start.
In my humble and personal opinion many companies shouldn’t be so myopic on ROI when it comes to social and mobile. However, it is important. And if it’s important to you, a good way to increase your knowledge base is to review this book’s contents.
