Review

Another excellent book from Patrick Holford, this deals with addictions - not just alcohol, drugs and nicotine - but sugar and caffeine too. All have major impacts on health and well-being and are difficult to give up without expert help. Using nutrition and providing the right nutrients and supplements, investigating allergies, stabilising blood sugar levels and addressing the psychological reasons for addiction the Brain Bio Clinic, founded by Holford, helps many people every year. This book is written for anyone who feels it is time to take control of their lives, rather than being run by their addictions and experiencing the mental and physical consequences. It isn't made out to be easy, but a detailed run down of how to approach each addiction gives an insight in how to change. There are plenty of resources, references and places to get help included as well. BOOK OF THE MONTH, HEALTHYSOUL.CO.UK Whether booze, fags, sugar or drugs are your vice, this book has been written to help rid you of your addiction - for good! Including action plans, case studies and diet tips, this easy-to-understand book has the potential to be a life-changing. STAR MAGAZINE If smoking, prescription drugs, caffeine or even sugar are a day-to-day vice affecting your health, this could be your weapon. BRAND NEW YOU Book of the Week: A helpful, holistic and very thorough guide to quitting dependencies from sugar to drugs, via cigarettes, antidepressants and alcohol. YOU MAGAZINE

I don't usually write reviews, but this time I feel that it's very important for people to know that this book offers a REAL solution to addiction. I can't be grateful enough for having found it. It works, people, really, it works. I have tried so many times (at least 20 times) to get off my opiate addiction during the last six years, but nothing seemed to work. Any addict will relate to the depression that this fight puts you in. When you read this book, you understand completely why you feel as you feel. I can"t explain it so well as they do. But the main problem is that your brain changes while taking drugs, and these changes last for many years if not all life long. The authors state a great truth: many addicts manage to overcome the physical part of the withdrawal, as hard as this can be. But the harder part to overcome is the "psychological" or "mental" part. When you feel so depressed that you can't even smile or speak normally with people or eat or take a shower, etc, then it's no wonder that one goes back to drugs just to feel "normal". And the authors of this book understand this fact so well, that not only do they describe it wonderfully, but they have managed to create a detox plan based on simple stuff such as food supplements (vitamins, amino acids, essential fats, etc), and food. They also give you some other advices about activities that can make you feel better, like exercising or meditating. The whole book is written from the perspective of how the brain works. For example, they explain that exercising is good when quitting drugs because it raises your endorphin levels. Another thing you will find in this book are very precise instructions on how to quit different addictions -not only opiates- including cigarettes and antidepressants.Read more ›

I read this book and started the program over a month ago. My physical and mental health are still improving, not where I want to be yet, but I have not had ANY sugary filled deserts in 35 days. I've been struggling with low blood sugar and trying to stay away from sugar since I was 12 - 36 years. I've tried Kathleen Desmaison and The Zone and Eat Right 4 Your Type. All of those have been helpful, but I've never licked the habit for this long before without a huge struggle. I don't even WANT sugar anymore. I've NEVER been able to say that. I'm excited.

This book is fantastic! Am using some suggestions about supplements to curb depression with outstanding results! As a person with limited medical coverage and a need to perform at my best daily, this book has been a life saver! Plan to use in my couseling practice as well for those who do not want to use meds and have mild symptoms. Great book!!!

This book is not just excellent in addressing addictions in terms of what they are, but helping you use amino-acid therapy to reinforce your willpower, build better relationships, and eat better food that supports your health-giving personal project. It certainly takes you away from artificial things that undermine the very achievements people struggle to make: those that replace one addiction with another, and instead gives you the opportunity to create that 'bridge' to a more rounded personality, a stabler mind, a mind that can take the strain and not give in.

This book explains what vitamins and supplements to take while quitting any drug. I think that you can quit drugs supplement-free without feeling like s***. I will say that I did buy all of the pills that the book recommended and I did really enjoy the 5HTP that was suggested. It really helped with stress and overeating while quitting smoking.

This is an excellent "how to" book. It can save many of lives. This info is what the medical profession does not want you to know. I am withdrawing from effexor with no symptoms. Amino acids are essential in the healing processes as well as other recommended supplements and changing subconscious fears and beliefs.
