Thomson takes the reader through a cold hard look at the reality that most of us face in the working world. From being overworked, to bullied, to chronically fatigued, it's no wonder that job satisfaction is at an all time low. Compound on top of that shrinking wages and the ever looming threats of the omnipresent Great Recession, and you have a recipe for workplace misery unrivaled since the early part of the last century.
So what's a guy or gal to do?
Thomson answers that very question and more in his compelling new book. He outlines various strategies for making money independently of a job, whether they be as a consultant, through starting your own traditional brick and mortar business, or by starting an online business. These strategies can replace a full-time income or merely supplement one so you're not as much of a slave to the corporate kingpins of the world as they'd like you to be.
Thomson's book is a fascinating exploration of the current state of work in much of the Western world, and includes solid recommendations on what to do to protect yourself and your family in this brave new world. An essential read.
This book has really helped me a lot in finding the places to promote myself, as well as the attitudes and decisions to take to be an independent freelance or business owner. It is an easy, friendly read, and very up to date to find the places you should be checking out to promote yourself and your business, plus it gives you a lot of ideas. Highly recommended.
What I found was some very well researched, and nicely written information that I will continue to refer to as we move forward in life. Some of the information here is immediately actionable so that someone who is looking for alternatives to a regular 9 to 5 (or 9 to 9) job can work with.
The exercises in each chapter help bring it together. And as our experiences change over time, it's nice to have access to these exercises to review.
Looking forward to more from CK.
