People-watching always proves to be a fascinating diversion. You’ve probably done it from time to time at the mall, at the grocery store, in meetings, during social gatherings, at sporting events, and so on. And if you’re like us, you’ve probably found yourself wondering what someone was thinking--what the story was behind a certain action or decision.
You probably already know that the “faces” people make or the way they tilt their heads, for instance, suggest certain thoughts or feelings. What people convey with their bodies, regardless of whether or not any words are said, speaks volumes about their intentions and emotions. And if words are spoken, knowing what a person is communicating via body language can, in many cases, help affirm or contradict what you are hearing.
Being aware of the emotions and intentions behind certain mannerisms can help you in all areas of your life. The more you practice “reading people like a book,” the more you’ll understand what makes them tick. With this deeper understanding, you’ll be able to deal more effectively with people on a professional, personal, and casual level.
By reading this book, you’ll learn how to train yourself to pay attention to the nonverbal language going on all around you. You’ll begin to “listen” with your eyes, watching carefully for the words, sentences, and paragraphs people write with their gestures and expressions. In Chapter 1, you’ll train yourself to become a keen observer of people. Then, in Chapter 2, you’ll come face to face with the expressions people make and the meanings behind them. The authors appropriately point out that different gestures and expressions in isolations are just like words, and that it is important to take into consideration how these different gestures and expressions relate to each other, how much they support the meaning of each other, the verbal language that accompanies them, the individual's cultural background, the health condition of the person, individual's habitual behavior, possible environmental factors, and anything else that may be contributing to the expression of a particular gesture.
At the beginning of the book, some expressions, gestures, postures and body movement are illustrated. Later chapter of the book, in an attempt to cover as many different situations for observing the body language as possible, there is only a listing of expressions, gestures or postures to which you may want to pay attention.
People who work in occupation where their well-being and/or income depend on their skill to interpret the body language they deal with (such as salesman, negotiators, lawyers, flight-attendants, waitresses, therapists, presenters, etc), will most likely know much more than they could find in this book. And when it comes to body language related to courtship and relationships, there are other books that offer much more information, like The Flirting Bible.
This book does share a few pages on body language children may use to communicate, body language in courting, body language used in negotiations, body language used in sales, body language used in a courtroom, body language used at social gatherings, and you may find it useful as a general overview and a brief introduction, and then keep up exploring other books, perhaps What Every Body is Saying, The Definitive Book of Body Language, Winning Body Language, The Naked Brain, and whatever else piques your interest.

In a `down-to-earth' manner, including clear illustrations, "How to Read A Person Like A Book" explains how you can interpret verbal and non-verbal, as well as subtle and non-so-subtle communication styles.
Having been in sales and sales training, I'd list this as required reading. Had I discovered "How to Read A Person Like A Book" before now, I would have benefited enormously.

The book is a great helper for those in search of a new sight into the way we communicate non-verbally. It s also great for those who might have public talks or presentations to come, or that make their daily lives dealing with other people either in presentations or negotiations.
For those that find the human a fascinating "creature" they will for sure find something of interest.
