Bradbrook covers aspect involved in running and running faster, it's a very encouraging e-book packed full pf valuable information. If you're serious about significantly improving your running speed, want to look hard at your training regime and tweak it to make it better, then, Bradbrook provides for you the manageable steps to improving your speed irrelevant of your running level.
He takes you through a number of speed work techniques and provides good info, tips and advice on the required overhaul of your eating habits to gain maximum performance levels.
Although I usually swim more than run, Bradbrook has inspired me to do more running, this e-book explained the whole running process in bite-sized chunks and helped me realize it's not as difficult as I first thought.
I recommend this e-book to beginners who want take up running in a safe way and to those who want to improve their running speed and distances with the view to gaining amazing results quickly. In fact, if you're into any kind of sport then you'll enjoy this e-book!
My big beef (so to speak) is with the section on nutrition. As someone who's thrived on a low carb high fat diet for 4 years -- and who's read a lot on the subject, such as Phinney and Volek's The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance -- I take issue with many of the claims in this section, such as "no more than 25% of your calorie intake should come from fats."
That quibble aside... This book offers more than just a guide to the technical "stuff" you need to do/practice/repeat to become a better runner. It also provides empathy, reassurance and motivation -- key elements, if you want to accomplish anything truly glorious in life or in exercise.
I also liked the chapter on diet. There are lots of options given and a few things I wasn't even familiar with like caffeine bars.
Of course, injury is always a danger with any sport. And it's good to know the difference between "good pain" and "bad pain". This is spelled out very clearly. Bottomline: Push through the good pain. While bad pain means you're about to injure yourself so stop.
Great read and a great guide.
It's easy to be a little intimidated when we're starting something new. Whether your goal is just to lose a few pounds or shave minutes off your times, this book gives us a 'fast start' on the best practices to be successful.
My favorite part of the book was Ch.6 - Get faster in a month: what a training week should look like. There are suggested training schedules for different distances: up to 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon. I found this to be especially helpful.
Top reviews from other countries
Some ideas were useful especially the dietary requirements for marathon runners and recovery.
I don't see a beginner being able to use much of the training advice in this book, and more experienced runners won't find anything new here. I'd recommend getting an actual running book over this one: Galloway for beginners and Daniels for advanced runners. I'm sure there are plenty of other good books out there as well, this is just not one of them.
