The thing I probably appreciate the most - the book is concise. Not a lot of superfluous writing, unnecessary background, etc. It's just bam, bam, bam, next point: bam, bam, bam, etc. Exactly what I was looking for, doesn't waste your time.
This book is specifically geared toward selling on Amazon.com, which is the marketplace for book sales in today’s world. Her recommendations don't involve paid advertising...it's all about understanding the online marketplace and knowing what tools are available and how to use them. If you are comfortable with the online world, you will be able to dive right in to her recommendations.
If you are new to the online marketplace, luckily Penny goes into depth explaining how Amazon works and what you need to understand to most effectively use it as a marketplace. Sansevieri examines the state of publishing in today’s world and examines topics such as the length of your book, bundling it with other titles and collaborating with other authors on bundling. Audio books are also put forth as a way to strengthen what she calls “marketing muscle.” One aspect of marketing that is extremely important in today’s online world is keyword usage. There's a big section on this because understanding how people search for books and what they expect to find based on the search terms they used is super important.
Researching your strong keywords and using them effectively will help you in all of your marketing efforts. Keyword strategy is a huge topic in itself, and Sansevieri devotes the bulk of the first book to this key topic. She examines it effectively, giving a basic overview that everyone can understand and put into practice. She provides resources for researching keywords and how to find the ones that apply to your book topic.
After reading this book, you’ll have a thorough understanding of pricing on Amazon, Amazon’s categories and themes, and boosting pre-order sales.
Overall, Sansevieri proves herself to be knowledgeable about marketing in the digital age and if you have a book you want to promote, there is bound to be something in this that will work for you. I seriously believe that her strategies would work for anyone selling anything on Amazon, because although the advice is specific to books, the advice such as understanding how to use keywords is super important for any online seller.
I’ve read a few of her other “sell by the truckload” in the series. I have found that which each one she has consistently improved and kept up to date with all the changes that are happening through the book community. With this newest one she sheds more light on the keywords functionality when you’re researching what categories to list your book in. She takes the time to explain why keyword strings are so important when adding your book to the site. With the possibilities being endless when it comes to keywords, it’s important that you pick the best ones for you. She explains it all and then some.
It’s not just the keywords, or even just the appropriate list price. It’s a bunch of things added into the mix that will make the difference. What I loved about this one, was not only the updates but the details! Amazon’s Ad system, Kindle Unlimited, self promotion, street teams, marketing on social media, the added bonus of including your reviewers paraphrases in your description as well as just how to embrace your readers reactions to what you right. It’s pretty cool when you think about the time and effort it really takes to do more once you’ve finished your book.
As someone who is an avid reader, graphics designer and part time work at home mom, I really value any extra bit of help and tips to make my daily work even easier. She includes so many resources! This is very helpful book!
