Delphine D'Arleux has a dream to open a chocolate shop. Using most of her savings to travel to Belgium to learn the proper way to make chocolate. While there she runs into a very handsome American name Brad Larsen who gives her a kiss and in return receives a slap.

Because of a computer error the airline says that Delphine doesn't have a return ticket home. She tries to gain money from her account only to find her parents have drained it out. She's got no money and no way home. Or does she?

Brad and his parents are at the same terminal waiting to return home. Brad finds out about her situation and his father pays for her ticket and takes her home. Brad is intrigued by Delphine and continues to help her realize her dream by his father loaning her the money to open the chocolate shop.

Is Brad just being nice to help her out? or does he expect more than just a monthly payment? Is Delphine just going along with liking Brad because she feels like she has to to secure the loan from his family? Both are insecure. Will they open up so each can see the others heart?

What a very "sweet" and fun story. Who could not like a story about chocolate.

Once again, Bonnie Blythe has delivered a well-crafted contemporary Christian Romance. As with her other books, Blythe wrote a wonderful blend of character problems, Christian themes, comedy, and love. I recommend How Sweet It Is to anyone who is looking for a good read.

*Possible mild spoilers* I rarely write reviews, but I just couldn't let this one go. I LOVE to read. I almost never put down a book without finishing it, even if I'm not crazy about it. I just have hope that it'll get better. This one was no exception, except the only reason I didn't put it down this time was so I could write an honest review about how much I disliked it (in case it happened to get better on the last page). The characters are just so infuriating. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that books need antagonists, and that sometimes the antagonist comes in the form of the characters' insecurities, but these people are ridiculous. If you're supposed to write what you know, I'm worried about the author. Every other sentence is 'maybe she only said she loves me because she owes my family money'; 'maybe he only said he loves me to get me to kiss him'; 'maybe if I pay off her debt she'll really love me'; 'I paid off my debt, why doesn't he love me'; 'I paid off her debt, she doesn't want my money, I won't speak to her anymore'; 'she's mad at me, I better marry her even though we've only known each other a few weeks and haven't been on speaking terms for half of them'...sorry, just very frustrating! And they're supposed to be adults, but evidently neither can eat chocolate without getting it all over their faces. And it's supposed to be endearing! Grr..I gave it 2 stars because I felt a bit of empathy for one of the characters for about a minute, and I feel guilty giving one star because I know a lot of work goes into writing a book. *End rant*

This is a Christian romance, so there aren't any steamy, fan yourself off, scenes, just so you are aware. It was a sweet story line but it wasn't really gripping for me. I don't really have much to say about it because it didn't really blow me away but it didn't immensely disappoint me, either. It was slightly far-fetched. He just met her and was willing to get daddy to pay for her international plane ticket. Although, maybe it's not that far-fetched? If I ran in to a gorgeous guy I had previously met and had the money to help him get home and it meant I got to sit in first class with him from Belgium to LA, maybe I'd do it? I'd still want my money back eventually, though. It was short, sweet, and free (at the time I got a hold of it). If you're looking for a clean, sweet love story, this will work.

Who doesn't love chocolate and romance? Delphine is a woman who loves to make chocolate candy and has found a man who loves to eat chocolate. This was a great little romance and would like to see more like it. I love the idea of a man who loves a woman for who she is and not what she size she is. Great read!!

I read this book in less than a day. It's a story about Romance that actually focuses on the relationship, not the "let's see how fast we can jump into bed".
The fact that Chocolate is involved makes it that much better.

1/4 - I haven't actually started this yet, but I just wanted to note that it's my first 'christian' romance and I'm not sure how I'm going to like it (first sign of preaching and the first star is going).

5/4 - The guy, Brad, is a naive idiot and I hate lines like "What could be negative on so beautiful a day-in Europe no less?" Ugh, what did the much more sympathetic female character call his words? That's right, "Trite". I would add sickly sweet and it's lines like these that give romance books a bad name. What's up with the front cover? That little brown spot on the corner of the guy's mouth doesn't look like a chocolate flake/crumb/piece/whatever, especially when you see the enlarged version of it. It looks more like a sultana or bread crumb got squashed into the cover of the physical book and then they scanned the cover as is - not alluring at all. It makes me think of a boy with a grubby face who needs his mother to spit onto a hanky and clean his face for him.
P.S. Does "much needed cachet" from page 14 actually translate to "much needed cash"? If so I have serious doubts about Blythe's writing skills. To be continued...

25/07 - Yes, I'm still struggling through this. This was supposed to be my book dessert and so, I was expecting a sweet romance with a chocolate creme centre, instead I got a doughy, under-cooked doughnut that's missing the sprinkles. I'm at that point where you're still trying to chew the dough, not sure if you can stomach finishing the mouthful, but not disgusted enough to spit it out; you're stuck between a squishy rock and a spongey hard place not sure what to do. To be continued...(if I can keep chewing)

5/09 - I've given up on this one.
