About the Author
Katie McClain is a life coach and teacher. She specializes in working with moms and their sons and also works with schools to help teachers and their students thrive. I began my career as a Fashion Designer, but have always been a teacher and coach at heart. I've taught other designers to design fabric using specialized software and I've worked with individuals to help them understand technology. The bottom line of my teaching has always been to help others step into their confidence in whatever area they were working on. Since raising my son, I have studied and learned a great deal about confident parenting and raising of kids. I became a coach to help other parents and kids. I wrote this book because I knew that if I'd had these tools as an adolescent, my struggles in life would have been much easier to deal with. I've found that teaching and coaching parents and the adults who raise kids is like gold. It benefits both the adults and the kids in their care.

It's helping me sleep better already (literally)!
I wish it was written in more of a read-aloud format, however. Having to summarize a new concept is difficult. It would be nice if parts were written to be read directly to the kids.
But before I gush too much, let me tell you about the book. It's packed chock-full of lots of worksheets and exercises for both you and your kids to work on to help you find, visualize and eventually tame your "thought monster". It's full of beautiful images and fun drawings of monsters, and the text and images are clear and concise -- it makes it just as fun for kids as it does mom and dads! The kids love this book because it is not only visually appealing, but it offers them activities that not only tell them things, but SHOWS them, which I think is really a better way for younger kids to learn. Explaining things to kids doesn't always stick with them, but showing them the cause and effect of something really seems to make the point. Katie's book is a great balance of both, making it great for kids of varying ages in addition to adults. So when I say this is a book the whole family can really get great use out of -- I'm being completely serious.
Katie peppers her knowledge with personal stories and insights -- so it's easy to practically relate all of her wisdom to your own life, thus making it easier to accomplish the tasks she asks of you in the book. It's like having a coach guide you through the activities personally. The stories she tells makes me feel like we're friends and she's just giving me helpful advice.
As you accomplish each step, you'll realy begin to understand how your thoughts and the things you think really affect your daily life, and that those little thoughts can add up to big problems if you let them get out of hand. Our family has really found that asking one another the questions Katie poses in her book helps clarify the root of the problem and keeps our thought monsters out of the way so we can work together to be a happy, cohesive family!
Thank you Katie for writing such a marvelous book! I highly reccommend it!
When I first was introduced to the Self Coaching 101 Model, I was a bit overwhelmed by the idea that my thoughts eventually created my results.
I believed thoughts "should be" positive, but I didn't realize the power of my thoughts.
Katie's workbook gives anyone who is a newbie to this concept a very simple means to understanding the Self Coaching 101 model!
Not only did she help me with the understanding...she clearly guided me on how to apply the model in my own life.
I recommend it highly!
