Solitary cowboy, Trip Turner walked out on the love of his life twelve years ago, breaking her heart and landing in juvenile detention. Now’s he back in Saddle Creek, Montana, at the dude ranch for wayward teens, where his mentor, John Stone, taught him the rules of how to become a man. But a tragedy has reminded Trip that he failed to follow one of those rules. And it could have been the most important one of all.
Bre Wilson had moved on with her life—she has a successful veterinary practice, and she’s put all thoughts of Trip Turner, the boy she’d planned to spend the rest of her life with, behind her. Or so she thought. Because he’s back, and no longer a boy. Now he’s a hot-as-hell man, and she has to spend the next two weeks working by his side without either kissing him or killing him.
Trip let Bre go once, he won’t do it again. He has a second chance to fix the mistakes he made all of those years ago, and this time he’s following the rules. He just needs to figure out how to unbreak her heart.

Eh, not feeling too much here. At least it's short, but the characters seem a bit cliche, and much of intro was the standard "horse has a breech birth and all hands on deck" scenario.
I highly recommend this quick read but a packed full story of second chances.
There is nothing sweeter than teenage love. Trip Turner and Bre Wilson had just graduated, were deeply in love, and had their future all planned out. Until something happened that changed everything. Now it’s twelve years later. Trip is a successful furniture maker and Bre achieved her dream of being a veterinarian. But neither has ever fallen in love. For Bre, her heart was broken after Trip left. For Trip, no one ever could measure up. His heart always belonged to Bre.
“If you love her, don’t let her go.”
A mentor of Trips has had a stroke and Trip is going to his ranch to look after things for two weeks to help out. Never did he imagine that he would run into Bre. That this is where her practice was. One look, one touch, and Trip knows that he still loves her. Could this be their second chance? Can she ever forgive him for leaving her twelve years ago? He has to try. He can’t let her go again.
Bre can’t believe it’s him after all these years. And this version of Trip, the boy that grew into the man, is so much better than her memories. But she can’t risk it. Her heart can’t take being broken like that again. She never fully understood what happened all those years ago. Why he left her. She wants answers, and then maybe she can finally have the closure she needs. Maybe she can finally move on.
“As much as she tried to fight it, she still cared about him. And she didn’t know if that made her a better person, or a weaker one.”
I loved this book! There is so much packed in to these pages. I always thought it must be so hard to write a short story with such a limited amount of time to pull us in and make us fall in love with the characters. But I did! Even though they were so young, Trip and Bre shared the truest of love. Circumstances tore them apart but time didn’t diminish their feelings. Can this be their second chance at happiness? Can Trip unbreak Bre’s heart?
Trip and Bre’s relationship when they were young burned hot and fast, ending suddenly when Trip got into trouble and was sent away. Unexpectedly face-to-face again, Trip’s still keeping the secret that took him away from Bre all those years ago, but he’s not willing to let her slip from his grasp this time. Bre’s heart aches the second she see’s Trip again, even after all these years. They’ve grown up, sure, but that just means they’re in control of their own fates now, and as much as he still affects her, she’s angry and hurt and all those things her teenage heart suffered.
This one’s just a short novella, so there’s not a lot of time for deep character development or twisting plot, but Marts does an awesome job dropping us right inside the characters’ hearts and minds, and I felt every bit of Bre’s conflicted feelings. Trip’s understanding of the wayward teenage boy working at the ranch gave insight into his true character, and when the true reason for his split from Bre when they were teens finally came to light, it just went to show what an amazing man he was. For such a short story, this one has it all — the chemistry, the bittersweet reunion, the second chance they finally got… I loved every second of it!
