Interesting side note: there's a great "trailer" for this book I stumbled on
The stories are all different, and all similar, in that the settings wer SO different, but the overlying theme seemed to be that we guys tend to have difficulty taking on adult responsibility.
This apparently is Mr. Tarry's first book; I hope most greaty for equel!
In an age where Men and Men's issues are relegated to a hackneyed, banal 25 second vignette that airs intermittently between the latest T.V. craze, Tarry stands tall, talks a mean talk and walks a mean walk.
Espousing a 'meat and potatoes' version of masculinity that often veers into the fantastical, this collection manages to balance both modern post feminist traits as well as an 'into the tool shed' mentality.
With 'How To Carry Bigfoot Home', Tarry plants a formidable footprint on the landscape of the evolutionist's approach to Men and Masculinity. Rife with reference to and reverence for family, individuality and what it means to be grounded, humble and magnificent, these short stories maintain the questions and curiosity associated with an indomitable spirit that challenges the evolving nature of what it means to inherit the heterogametic (XY) chromosome while acknowledging an affection for the homogametic (XX).
XOXO to Chris Tarry for providing such profound insight.
