Editorial Reviews

Howard Hodgkin, one of today's foremost British artists, describes himself as a painter of feelings rather than of ideas. The memories Hodgkin's works evoke have a universal appeal. His exuberant colors and bold shapes, which carry over to the frames, speak directly to the viewer's intellect and emotions. A modest man, Hodgkin acknowledges his debt to past masters, especially to those superb colorists, Degas and Turner. Highlighting the program are discussions of his large mural for the British Council building in New Delhi, India, and his Venice paintings, which give the impression of looking into water. Among those commentating are renowned artist David Hockney and noted art critics Andrew Graham-Dixon, Sarah Kent, and David Sylvester.
