From the manufacturer
Waxman is a globally integrated company that uses cutting-edge research and development, industrial engineering and design, and an unprecedented commitment to excellence to deliver quality consumer products for the entire home.
At the range or on the hunt, the Howard Leight by Honeywell Impact Sport Sound Amplification Electronic Shooting Earmuff keeps you protected from hazardous noise and connected to your environment. It carries a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22 in both on and off mode. When the electronic ear protection is switched on, it employs built-in directional microphones that amplify ambient sounds to a safe 82 dB. This allows you to hear important commands on the range and crucial environment sounds when hunting. For additional shooting hearing protection, it also actively listens and automatically shuts off amplification when loud impulsive sounds like firearm discharges reach 82 dB. Patented Air Flow Control technology allows for a slim earcup design that ensures your firearm stock has clearance while shooting. The padded headband features telescopic height adjustment for a comfortable, customized fit. An external audio jack lets you connect the shooting earmuff to an MP3 player, scanner or other audio source. The battery delivers approximately 350 hours of usage, and the automatic shut-off feature engages after 4 hours to help save battery life. All Howard Leight electronic earmuffs and safety eyewear are compatible for use with each other.

We have our own private rifle and handgun range on our property, so we're always shooting. We also attend a number of carbine and pistol classes each year, where some of them are VERY hard on gear, but these muffs have taken a beating and keep on going -- even in a downpour! We're also big into the night vision world, so I was pleasantly surprised when the Team Wendy ComTac headset adapters worked with these muffs almost PERFECTLY (see photos I've attached to this review). No need to be wed to Peltor if you need to run ear pro on your helmet(s)!
Noise reduction is about the same as the Peltor units, but ambient sound amplification with the Leights is MUCH better. Where it was difficult to hear subtle sounds with the Peltors, the Leights give you Superman-like hearing! Yet another plus in the Leight column.
They Howard Leights -- in our extensive experience -- are: MORE durable, MORE comfortable, have MUCH better battery installation, LOOK better, FEEL like they're higher quality, PERFORM better, and now that we've discovered they can use the Peltor helmet mount adapters, there is simply NO reason to ever get another set of the cheap Peltors.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they're 20% CHEAPER to boot! Can it get any better? I don't see how.
feel free to Check my references, I am a 15 year veteran of Live sound and own a recording studio in Maui
I am a Life member of the NRA and a member of the Valley Isle Sport shooters.
Shooting is my hobby, sound is my life.
I entrust my main professional asset to these head phones.
If you shoot mostly or exclusively at indoor ranges I would recommend the "Howard Leight R-01902 Impact Pro" earmuffs. They lower the sound of indoor shots down to an acceptable level.
I gave the earmuffs three stars because they work very well outdoors. I just wish they would have explained the problem with indoor ranges.
I have owned cheap ones from harbour freight.
These are a million times better, specially since they are battery powered noise canceling headset.
They automatically turn down the sound once the loudness goes over a certain Db. Protecting your precious hearing.
No more ears ringing.
The girlfriend is no longer jumping at every shot others take around you.
I just wish they would have had Bluetooth capability and a microphone, then I would work and pay with these all day long.
On that note, here is what I think of them aftera few times at the range.
They are comfortable leather type.
They have input jack for music or mic.
They are adjustable
they bring good quality batteries. (Duracell)
they fit in most places. I carry my S&W shield .40 gun clip + ammo + eye perfection + upLula + these headsets all in one small plastic ammo box. The ones they sell for 8-10$ or less here at amazon.
You can adjust the sound amplification and better hear your surroundings. It's like having bionic hearing.
Love these headsets.
I read a few reviews about this item and I completely agreed with them when they said they could not stop the sound from coming in through the side of the headset when wearing glasses.
Well ley me say, there is a solution to this minor issue for such a great gadget.
The solution is simple, Wear the right type of eye protection. I found this solution by chance since my girlfriend had forgotten her eye wear and I kindly gave her mine and bought the cheap ones they sell at the range. Well, let me tell you; I had no issues what so ever and they fit perfectly over my ears. AND I HAVE HUGE EARS.
I for mines on sale, and would have happily paid full retail price as well. I now have a pair. These are great and would buy again.
