Hoya 49mm alpha Circular Polarizer FilterPlastic Filter CaseLimited 1-Year WarrantyThe Hoya 49mm alpha Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2016Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseGreat filter. It came in good condition, and has worked exactly as I expected it to. I would recommend this filter to anyone who does a lot of photography in harsh sunlight, who wants deeper blue skies, or wants to remove reflections from water or glass. The only thing that I was slightly disappointed by was that it hasn't cut out all reflections from the desired surfaces, but I'm not even sure that that is possible with a circular polarizer. If you need certain reflections completely removed, I would recommend looking into linear polarizers.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseThis product (49mm Hoya Circular Polarizing Filter) was delivered quickly and arrived in good condition. After figuring out the proper way to install the filter on my X-100f, I tried out several photographs. So I haven't had a big photographic trip to use this on yet, but it seems to work really well, with no color distortion, the elimination of all different kinds of reflections, the slight intensifying of natural scenes (fewer reflections from leaves), and the increased clarity of the sky (fewer reflections off of the particles in the atmosphere). The filter can also reduce reflections off of people's faces, which can be helpful at time. One problem, however, is that none of my lens caps fit with the filter on. Perhaps this is normal with filters. But it would be nice to have a lens cap that fits over screw on filters.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2016Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseThis was my first filter purchase for a Canon SL1 paired with the latest version 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. I shoot a lot around water and bright blue skies so I figured a polarized lens would be a good investment. The Hoya 49mm alpha CP Filter comes in a solid package that was just a bit scary to open, but once I pried it open and had the lens in my hands, it felt solid enough on its own. I had to be very careful not to cross thread the filter onto my lens, but I'm sure that's a given. By hand, it was a little tricky since the threads are super small, and the band that actually tightens the filter versus change the polarization angle was also very narrow. This caused me to unscrew the filter my first time playing with the polarization, luckily it unscrewed into my palm rather than onto the ground. After that, I took a little more time to snug it on the lens firmly, and have yet to feel it loosen up at all aside from a test to make sure I hadn't overtightened it.
I would definitely buy this again, it does what I wanted it to do: cuts down on reflected light coming off the ocean.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2019Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseSuch a big difference! I took two pictures of a home, one with the filter and one without. The amount of detail that the sun was washing out was a lot. Love it. I used the filter on my Sony 50mm f1.8 lens.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseKinda hard to take it off from lens. And I feel I received an used copy that has use of signs on it. At least, this filter gets the job down.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2023Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseDoes just what it’s supposed to. No complaints.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2014Size: 49mmVerified PurchaseFits precisely and turns smoothly. To my eye I can't see added softness in my images. Of course I am not a pro, but do appreciate keeping my images as sharp as possible.
