Hubris Falls is the tale of one Brian "Legs" Hamilton, a young man who from the first page spouts of crazy thoughts and complex ideology. He and his friends have little regard for conventions and rules, and thus he ends up dead drunk on his graduation day. After vomiting a good number of places and cursing out the security staff, he ends up in the Deans office for a scolding. Along the way were introduced to some of his friends, who also tend to be unconventional people and stoners who flock around Brian. They decide to postpone their advance into adulthood with one last road trip, but ultimately their devil-may-care attitudes lead to huge problems.
The writing touches on several issues with complete irreverence (as you'd expect from a collection of drunk/drugged college grads). The book might remind you of yourself at that time, or it might bring up some points you agree with. As it closely follows the perspective of Brian, it doesn't hold punches with the material. There's also a good bit of wit in the writing, as Brian is a self-professed smartass. Even when messed up things are happening, hes still likely got a snide comment or two to roll out.
All in all this was an interesting tale, sort of a take on the "young man who is smarter than he lets on but bored so he picks up unsavory pursuits" kind of story. A little bit of a coming of age story, as well. The writing was good enough to pull me in, and the blend of comedy and dark statements kept me interested.
