Amazon gets 2.5 stars.
I did not get any feedback from Amazon relating to the delivery date until AFTER the trucking company had it at their local hub and AFTER the trucking company called me to arrange a delivery time. Fortunately, I had a flexible schedule so there wasn't a problem for me.
Amazon did allow for lift gate service and a second man to help with delivery. I didn't know this until I saw it written on the shipping form.
I could not find a lower price for this spa anywhere else, so that was good point.
Now for the spa.
It is a fairly well built spa with a good size pump and a good assortment of jets. I found the jets had plenty of pressure to give a good massage. I'm a single guy about 6 foot tall. The oval shape allows me to recline and fully submerge. However, when I sit in the seat, it is obvious that a deeper spa would be better for someone my height. Still, the spa meets my needs.
Some things to consider. I am using the spa in a heated basement so the 120v (20 amp) heater keeps the water temp where I desire. However, I do not know how well it will maintain temp when outside in cold conditions. A 220v (50 amp) spa would not likely have a problem, plus it would heat up faster. It took about 14 hours for my 120v version to raise the water temp from 49 to 98 degrees.
The spa has a nice multicolor light and a user friendly control panel with three different modes, including a power saver and storage mode. The spa comes with a very nice fitted cover.
Overall, I would recommend the spa for someone like me that wants a compact unit that is easy to set up, fill, and plugs into a standard (dedicated) 20 amp outlet. Just do your research and make sure the size will suit you.
Amazon does have a 30 day return policy for this item.
This spa is listed as "ozone ready" which means you can add an ozone generator which I highly recommend. An ozone generator can be had from $70 to $150 dollars, and while it doesn't eliminate the need for chemicals completely, it does greatly reduce the use and makes balancing them much easier. You'll want to order an ozone generator with the 4 pin AMP style connector and you'll need to plug it into the J29 pin on the balboa control board; this turns your ozone generator automatically when the pump is on. See the pictures regarding this.
The jets are powerful and as someone over 6' I find it to be very comfortable. With a second person you will probably be touching so it's not a great party spa. The lights are a nice mood and the controls are simple enough to use. If you're looking for a smaller basic spa and you don't need all the bell and whistles this spa is hard to beat at this price.
I converted the unit to 220 volts. In the process I got to see the covered portion of the hot tub. The fit of the exterior panels is very hit or miss (thus the vertical trim pieces, they hide the miss-matched panels). The insulation is entirely inappropriate. It consists of a reflective foil sheet that surrounds the tub. A bit of research quickly turned up that this type of insulation is effective for radiated heat (fires for example) but not for convection or conduction heat transfer (both of which are the primary heat transfer method in this unit). The poor efficiency of this can be felt when the pump engages and cold water is initially pumped into the tub. This means additional energy costs as the pump has to run more often. I insulated the unit with fiberglass insulation and it reduced the run time per day by quite a bit. The air valve broke soon after I started to use the unit. All in all I was disappointed with the quality of the build.
All that said, I am in the spa twice a day and will continue to use the unit as long as it lasts. While I would not recommend the unit to a friend (though there are few 1 person spas on the market) it is doing the job I purchased it to do, though it is costing more that it should to do so.
I was very disappointed and sent it back
