Hugo is openly gay but is not in your face about it. He is not in a relationship although this does change when he meets Ben. There are no sex scenes but there is the development of a relationship.
The book is well written although I did have a little problem with the author continually using the word that instead of who. There were also a few misplaced or missing apostrophes but this is the responsibility of the editor.
Instead of going out this morning I stayed in just to finish the story because I was enjoying it so much. I'm also very glad that I have book 2 waiting as I needed to start it immediately.
At the end of this book we do know who the killer is but there is a cliff hanger of sorts.
Un Homme Qui Attend
by G. N. Hetherington
The main character in this story Hugo Duchamp had not been to Paris in over 10 years. He was 34 years old and Detective Superintendent of the London Police Department. He was being transferred to France to take over temporarily for Captain Philippe Laurent, who had been charged with taking bribes and for corruption in his work as captain. Jean-Luc Missero has been charged with the murder, but was he framed? We will find out by reading this one to the very end. Commander Miriam Beaupain wife to Louis Beaupain has also been temporarily suspended from her position until the murder of a 10 year old could be solved. Louis Beaupain believed that Montgenoux was his town. He owned a large vineyard. This mystery suspense novel is very well done and will keep you turning the page to find out what will happen next. Hugo Duchamp has secrets of his own, but he knows that something is definitely wrong in Montgenoux and Hugo knows that one way or another he was never going to be able to avoid it. One of my favorite lines from the story. “For every murderer caught there was always another twisted mind waiting to be released from its cage of decency.” When the second 10 year old girl is found murdered who is daughter to the butler and kitchen help working for Louis Beaupain. The heat is turned up to find out who is at fault. This well written and murder mystery I have rated a solid 5 stars. I look forward to reading more works by G. N. Hetherington. His storytelling mastery shows his readers that he has talents that will involve your imagination and place you in and around the action. My favorite character in this story was Hugo Duchamp. I look forward to reading more in this series.
