Pressure sensitivity is accurate, tablet doesn't sit flat on table
Rating: 4/5What I Like:-Accurate pen strokes-Great pen pressure-Feels similar to a Wacom Intuos Pro in texture-Pen takes standard AAA batteries-Cable is user replaceableWhat I Don’t Like:-Surface of my tablet wasn’t entirely flat-Difficult to install drivers correctlyConclusion: I’ve drawn with a half dozen graphics tablets and I can say the Huion H610 is among the better I’ve used. The pen pressure works great, with decent weight variation. The tablet has a modestly rough texture to it, not exactly like drawing on paper but not smooth either. It reminds me of drawing on my old Wacom Intuos 2 in terms of handling – and that’s a good thing. The only parts that were difficult was the driver install. To get pen pressure working in Photoshop I needed to uninstall all the tablet drivers already on my computer. As well, my copy of this tablet isn’t entirely flat and if placed on a table it wobbles. That being said, I tend to hold my tablet in my hands, so for me this isn’t a big deal, but for those who draw on a flat table it might be a concern. Overall, 4/5 because it feels great to draw on, but doesn’t sit exactly flat.Robert D.DrekiTech
At first, I was going to buy a Wacom Pen, but it didn't have all of the express keys like this one, and I didn't feel like paying a bunch of money for more buttons, so I caved in and bought this. I wasn't sure about buying this, but I ended up getting it because it was so cheap and looked really nice. It got to my house within three days when I used the free shipping option (5-7 days, I believe), and that really surprised me! I've been using it for about two months now and it has a few scratches and the pen stopped clicking (but that was my fault for pushing on the button too hard). The pen still works fine, it just doesn't turn off, and I don't really mind it. The buttons also didn't work at first, but I think it was because of the driver, because when I downloaded the one from the Huion website, they worked perfectly fine after that.
I highly recommend this tablet if you're on a budget like I am, and even if you're not! It's a really great tablet, and does what it's supposed to do. I use Paint Tool Sai to draw things and Photoshop to edit them, and it works perfectly fine in both. I just don't recommend you have your cell phone or other electronics like that near it because the cursor started to go crazy when my phone or Nintendo 3DS were right next to it. But if I moved them it would work again, so it's not a huge problem. It was great as a first tablet for me, and was very easy to get used to. I don't have a Wacom or anything to compare it with, but it really is a good quality tablet especially for the price!
This tablet is generally well built, light and well designed. The pen is comfortable and the tablet works on Windows 8 if you get the updated drivers from Huion. After I installed the Drivers, I plugged in the tablet. (This order is extremely important don't reverse it). I opened Photoshop and set a default brush to pressure changes size. A friend of mine drew a line that started on the lower left side of the screen and snaked back and forth across the screen to the upper right side of the screen. She started with light pressure and gradually increased pressure. The line started very thin and gradually became very thick. This change was smooth and consistent, because this tablet is very responsive and sensitive. It has incredibly good resolution and no lag time. Draw on the tablet and watch the screen. It is so simple. The only feature this tablet does not support is pen tilt. Frankly, though pen tilt is nice, it isn't really all that important.
I immediately started painting with the tablet in Photoshop and was quickly able to paint an incredibly detailed landscape. I used this tablet extensively over the next three days and discovered some of the tablet's problems. None of them are serious, but a few are annoying.
First, the instruction included in the box are for the drivers included in the box. The interface has been changed in the drivers on the Huion website, so if you want the most up to date drivers, the instructions aren't much good. Still the interface is relatively intuitive and easy to figure out. Which is good since you will be on you own.
On to the pen. It is comfortable and feels good. Just unscrew the top, pop in a AAA battery, screw it back together and click the top of the pen. When you are done, click the top again to shut the pen off. By the way, the battery lasts a shockingly long time. A four pack of batteries could last years. The one thing I don't like about the pen is the lack of a cap. I work it the field a lot, and tend to put the pen it my pocket. In the week I have owned the tablet I have already lost three of the nibs that come with the pen. They seem to fall out when I take the pen out of my pocket, Most people probably don't draw on the go like I do, but a pen with a cap and pocket clip would be a great option. When you buy this tablet order at least a couple ten packs of nibs. I don't know how long it takes to wear one out, but they are easy to lose.
The buttons on the side of the tablet have worked perfectly for every application I have tried them in. The only complaint I have is with the zoom keys. They sometimes tip and stick under the plastic housing. If they were round like the other keys this wouldn't happen. This is an easy problem to fix, just press the key on the opposite side and it pops right up. If you purchase this tablet. make sure to hit the zoom keys in the center and straight up and down to keep them from getting stuck.
The final three problems I have run into all have to do with using the tablet and pen to draw. One day it was cold and I put on a fleece jacket. For some reason when the sleeve brushed against the tablet, the tablet went bonkers. There were lines all over the painting I was working on. Static electricity maybe, I don't know. I rolled up the sleeve and the problem went away. I have tried to reproduce the problem, and with that particular jacket it happens repeatedly. Interestingly, it doesn't happen with my other clothes. So I am going to say this is more of a problem with the jacket than the tablet. The next problem occurs when I am painting on the right side of tablet. Maybe three times in the last thirty or so hours of use, a pillar of color has appeared above the cursor. If I continue painting the pillar follows the cursor and paints the color on the screen above the cursor. If I lift the pen up, hit undo and resume painting the tablet works normally. This leads me to the third and final problem I have with this tablet. Sometimes, the pen stops drawing after using the undo key. The light on the left top corner of the tablet lights up indicating the pen is being sensed, the cursor moves, but no paint is laid down. I found out that clicking the pen off and on restores normal function. This happens once every few hours, usually after using the undo button.
In conclusion, I love this tablet. It has helped me draw much faster in Photoshop. It has made tedious tasks in photo editing easier. It is hundreds of dollars less than a Wacom Tablet, and still works very well, but not perfectly. It has a large working area, great design, and excellent resolution and sensitivity. This product could be improved with better instructions, a pen that has a cap, redesigned keys, and the elimination of a few minor technical issues that have little effect on how usable the tablet is. I would buy this tablet again, and recommend it to my friends.
The tablet itself is great. I like it a lot. However, finding and installing the drivers are an absolute nightmare. I've installed the software for this tablet on two occasions: first, when I originally got the tablet, and again just recently after having reinstalled Windows. Both times the install was a chore, to say the least, and the second installation was on a brand new install of Windows with little software installed and very few hardware drivers installed. It took several tries to get the drivers installed successfully, and, if I remember correctly, their website makes it very unclear which version of the driver was the latest, recommended release. I probably installed and uninstalled each version of the driver several times, restarting my computer each time in-between, sometimes with admin rights and other times without, before finally getting it to work. I do not know what caused it to finally work and therefore cannot offer any real assistance to anybody who might be suffering similar issues. While the tablet works excellently once installed, the installation has seriously tainted the entire experience and I dread the idea of ever having to install it on a new system again.
For those who may be curious about my system, the original install was on Windows 7, 64-bit, and I had a lot of other software and drivers for all kinds of peripherals I had picked up over time, so I had assumed the original challenging installation for this tablet was a fluke. The most recent install was on Windows 8.1, 64-bit, with only essential applications and drivers installed, and it was actually a more frustrating experience, for reasons unknown.
I bought this tablet with the intention of getting a capable device while avoiding Wacom's steep prices. While I believe this tablet has done a great job of that, it's also given me a little bit of perspective and a new-found appreciation for Wacom's products and, more specifically, their software support.
Edit: I would also like to point out, however, that I have also used this tablet on Mac OS X. I do not remember specifically which version of Mac OS X, but I believe either Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Either way, the driver installation on Mac OS X went as smoothly as it could have and the tablet, again, worked flawlessly. For Mac users considering this tablet, I'd imagine a lot of what I said up above would not apply, because my single experience with this tablet and OS X was a dream.
