So, I stumbled across this movie by way of Paz Vega. I love her and fell all over myself to see her in an erotic thriller. Sadly, it was neither thrilling nor erotic. The directorial debut of Jada Pinket Smith shows that Mrs. Smith certainly has the director's eye for production design. The style of the set design is top notch and enjoyable to look at. Unfortunately, the overall story telling is somewhat lacking.
Jason Clarke, by no means a bad actor nor necessarily a romantic leading man, plays a corporate type. Fairly generic, successful, good with the ladies, no real significance to his life.
Paz Vega, the sexy, somewhat predictable mysterious free spirit who shows up to add a little release and abandon to his life.
From there, you get a fairly generic story of erotic obsession, with a little subplot thrown in by way of the Clarke character's family. He's an angry fella. The free spirited nymph is married, but "it's and open marriage".
You know what, I'm already bored writing this review. The same feeling you'll have watching this movie. It's just kind of there, meandering it's way from scene to scene, with no real tension, no particular conflict. And what little conflict there is virtually dares you to care one way or the other.
Two stars for Paz, but I'd skip this one and go watch Nine and Half Weeks instead.
