Jim Dofka is a local here in town. Great heavy guitar player. This band rocks to the core! My cousin used to drum for him years ago. Ahhhh anyone remember the Brick Mistress days? Keep it coming Jim. F&%k$#g Great!

I was so blown away by this that I just had to share it by writing a review.
This is so good that I actually feel inspired to play music for the first time in a very long time. It's that good.
Jim Dofka is a virtuoso, guitar hero type in his own right but that's not why I like this. Guitar virtuosos are a dime-a-dozen. What's amazing about Dofka is the songs.
I will say that this style is a mix of Malmsteen's heaviest material like Pyramids of Chaeops with some Nosferatu-era Helstar. The riffs are very technical with odd-time in places and lots of intricate picking and harmonies. But all of the technical elements are done within the framework of classic song structures so it is still a band with songs. It never goes into the desultory song structures of bands like Symphony X and Dream Theater.
The vocals are also in the classic, heavy/power metal style i.e. lots of melodic wailing and harmonies etc. and the singer is very, very good. The one aspect that I don't care for is the experiment with some harsh, gurgling, grunting etc vocals. It's not done all of the time, fortunately and it's probably about 10% of the time but it's a. not a style that I care for but can tolerate here, and b. I don't think this singer is the best at this style. His harsh vocals come across to me as a bit monotone and lacking; it's as though they're trying to do an Arch Enemy vocal styling in these parts but it's simply not up to par, in my opinion. Regardless, this is minor and he is a fantastic vocalist.
I highly recommend this album and band to fans of underground dark, technical heavy metal.

If you're a fan of the classic metal style, check this out. The songs are very melodic and interesting...not boring or repetitive. The lead guitar is that "neo-classical" style...with lots of harmonized parts. However, it is not over-done to the point of being annoying...the songs stand on their own and are actually strong... and the arrangements and production are very well done. It's refreshing to hear metal like this...done the way it is supposed to be done!
