... Whoa...

These guys are a blast of fresh air!

The Alternative/Death Metal (or "Dgent" as it is becoming known) music scene has become quite saturated with Meshuggah wannabe's and knockoffs. Most of which have got caught in a whirlwind of who can go lower or get the weirder syncopation. Very few artists stand out...

HLB definitely draws inspiration and many music elements from Meshuggah - Down-tuned guitars, difficult syncopation, tonality, etc. (and they both share the same country). However, they have definitely added to these elements and included many of their own. Most notably, some very well placed blast beats, a stronger bass presence, and some tonality variances in the guitars that add a little more mid-range and treble to the mix. Also, Marcus, their vocalist, has a growl that'll have you gritting your teeth the second you hear it on the opening track.

Go ahead and pick this one up and give it a try! The instrumental versions of the songs are amazing as well and give you a chance to savor all the intricate voicings of the guitars and a lot of the atmospheric sounds.

I read a review which stated this, and that pretty much sums it up, directly after the intro track they waste no time. I love that you get the instrumental version included. It's fun to listen through all 26 tracks and after awhile you start to feel yourself filling in the vocals on the instrumental versions.

This kept popping up as a suggestion so I gave it a shot. If you like the intense ambience of Vildhjarta mixed with the crushing riffs of Meshuggah then you'll love HLB. What sets them apart from the rest of the djent movement is the heavy use of blast beats. Quality crushing metal is what you'll find here. Recommended.
