Amy Meyer Allen is the author, illustrator and designer of the best selling "Humble Bumbles Baby Journal." A mother of two precious girls and wife of one really hunky retired Naval officer, Amy loves God, people and doing anything creative. Her bread and butter job is as a freelance graphic designer. Her first children's book, "What is it?" was published in 2000 but has since gone out of print. Her second children's book, "Are there ants in your pants?" was published shortly thereafter but has also gone out of print. Amy is now over-the-moon excited about her most recent children's book, "Humble Heart: a book of virtues" which has been published by Tyndale. This is the fulfillment of a ten year dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best baby book I can imagine: comprehensive, sweet and detailed
Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2015
My husband and I love this baby book we have bought one for each of our two boys and now for our third.
It covers just about every aspect of babyhood to toddlerhood up to 3 years of age that you could possibly imagine. Everything from the before the baby is born: a place for sonogram pictures, a family tree chart, biographies of mom and dad, a part to record the baby shower (all of these sections include a page for you to put pictures in), setting up the babies nursery and a personal spot to write to your newest before they are born.

Then it covers in detail all the aspects of the birth (weight, height, how the baby was welcomed into the world (birth story) and where he/ she was born. Theres a little envelope for keepsakes that we keep our sons hospital bracelets and other hospital memorabilia followed by a page for the hand and foot prints (I always bring the baby book with us to the hospital so the nurse can put the foot and hand prints into the book and I can record my feelings and thoughts right in those first moments). There are 2 pages for pictures of those first couple days in the hospital, followed by a page for the first day home; what house you lived in, siblings reactions, what the babies temperament was like as well as how much it slept and ate. Theres also this neat two page section about the world where you record simple things about the world they were born into: the president, price of gas and milk, toy fads, popular sports and fashion trends (which are all going to be fun to look back on the child becomes an adult). Next there is a portion where mom and dad can write letters to baby called "Thoughts on the first few weeks of your life." This book makes things very personal and gives plenty of room to write to your child and paste pictures of many important moments.
Theres a spot for the babies favorite things and for the grandparents as well as other family moments- all that special stuff that you would partially remember but mostly forget the details of.

The next two sections are some of my favorite: The growth section where you record from month 1 to month 12 the date, weight, height, length and any other comments regarding your changes followed by a page where you can write about how how these changes effect you and your husband and how fast it all goes.
Next is a section for babies "firsts", including the first time baby laughed, held their head up crawled, walked, slept thru the night, ate solid food, stopped wearing a diaper, sang a song, made a friend, wrote the alphabet, etc etc etc. I add in the margins all the firsts my husband and I find important as well. It gets more specific after that, including a page for the first haircut with an envelope for the lock of hair, a tooth page where you can record when each tooth came in and the first dentist appointment, first steps, holidays and pets (each has a side for recording and a side for pictures).
After that the book focuses on the first 3 birthdays: what was done for each one, a page for recording our first years growth and accomplishments as well as favorite things. At the end of these sections is a page for the mom or dad to write a letter or how they feel about your first birthday and that first (or second or third) year of babies life.

This book is the best baby book I can imagine for recording all those special moments and landmarks of your childs first 3 years, including before they were born. In the front of the book there is a big envelope for any keepsakes important to you and a table of contents for each of the sections so you can turn to pages easily. I love how I can compare each child's growth because Ive gotten the same book for each so its easy. There are little quotes: some from the bible (Im not religious but the quotes they use are more general), Carl Sandburg, a Haida Indian saying, Helen Keller, etc. Ive read in some of the reviews of this book that its "too religious" but its really not= theres an equal amount of quotes from all different sources; all are very sweet and very appropriate.
I would recommend this book to any new parent who really wants to record all of those important life moments for their baby and likes to maybe scrapbook a little or personalize things. Im not much a scrapbooker but I love to make each book personal for each baby. I cant imagine a better book than this for all that!
