The Hummingbird, Concerto for Flute and The Satyricon Orchestral Suite
|New from||Used from|
Audio CD, February 4, 2016
Contemporary American classical music composer James Nathaniel Holland presents these contrasting concert pieces which have one thing in common: comedy and light-hearted-ness.
The Hummingbird, a 3 movement concerto for flute and orchestra begins softly as if awakening, then it is the day's business of fighting and collecting nectar with a little bit of jazz thrown in. The flute changes gears in the second, with a breezy, lazy warm day and then the third is a Mozartian styled finale.
The Satyricon is a full length comedy ballet adapted from Gaius Petronius' first century Roman novel and here are presented selected seven movements from it. Riot in the Forum, The Fight, the beautiful Pas de Deux, On to the Country, Romantic Liaisons, The Secret Society and the rousing Grand Finale. Pieces fun for dance or just to listen to.
The companion full score is available in paperback as well.
