If Jason Hefter hews to the maxim "write what you know" then I don't think I would care to happen upon him in a dark alley. "Hump Day" is a dark and very funny look at one day in the intersecting lives of a group of people who, if I was unkind, would term societies "losers." Often scary ones. And yet through his deft writing Hefter makes you r care for these misfits and outcasts and recognize them, even the most reprehensible of them. (And there are some bad folks here.) The skillfully interwoven stories are all so individually compelling that on more than one evening I picked up "Hump Day" for a half-hours read before bed only to find myself 3 hours later promising "Just one more chapter." Always compelling, full of humor and suspense and, when you least expect it, surprisingly moving "Hump Day" is a fine and fun read.

As a church going teacher of young children with three young children of my own, I'm not sure what I am more disturbed by...the book...or the fact that I LOVED it! The author weaves a dark, disturbing and hysterical story involving several characters. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts, cringing at others, and wondering how in the world did I care so much for what happened to some really vile characters? The pace was quick, and it all came together in an unbelievable/yet believable way. Jason Hefter is very adept at painting vivid mental images, some of which will stick with you for a very long time. Hump Day is a book that will get you through the long work week!

Hump Day is like nothing I have ever read before. It's funny and raw and dark, but it has a lot of heart and, I may be crazy, but I actually saw a message in there too. If you've ever been disallusioned, you will relate to the characters and the writing is incredibly visual. The author actually makes you root for people who are socially corrupt, sexually deviant and morally reprehensible -- not an easy task. Imagine Elmore Leonard on a pop culture acid tab or a Taratino film where you don't have to suffer through him casting himself. The style is not for the average church-goer, but it's unique and the metaphors are poinent and hysterical. In short, I loved this novel! If you like indie, this is a hidden gem. Like it says in the book, "Some people deserve what they get, others get what they deserve"... everyone looking for a great read deserves to check out this novel.

Although I believe that I am probably not the target audience for this edgy new novel, this senior citizen recommends it heartily to all ages! The author introduces us to a group of characters whose conduct ranges from ethical to evil. I laughed out loud at their outragious adventures and misadventures. I found in the characters traits that I recognized in people I know. I haven't stopped thinking about the story since I read it! Good and evil are not so far apart!

This book is AWESOME! One of my favorite movies of all time is Pulp Fiction, and this book definitely reminds me of that movie (but better). This book deals with the most demented characters, and it's deliciously hilarious. I couldn't put this book down, literally. I was mad when I finished it because I wanted more! Each of the characters' stories are great, and they are delivered in the best way. Each chapter jumps to a different time of the day, which jumps back and forth between each of the characters' stories. I love this because it builds the suspense. Seriously, you will not believe how great the suspense is-I had to cover the bottom of every page so that I wouldn't skip ahead to see what happened next. The wait is definitely worth it though because when everything unwinds and comes together I yelled (and you will too), "I F*$%ING KNEW IT". I even had to stop reading for a minute, let everything sync in, and then revel in the fact that I f*$%ing knew it. You MUST MUST MUST read this book! You will be surprised, and truly shocked, to see all the madness that can happen in just one day.

Hump day will never be the same...

Hump Day is a creatively twisted rollarcoaster where multiple storylines collide. It is not only tremendously entertaining, but for anyone who has ever been down and out or considered an "underdog" it inspires a little bit of hope via the cosmic work of karma. Hefter's first novel left me on the edge of my seat from the beginning- it's a literary equivalent to Pulp Fiction. Bravo!!

I couldn't stop laughing and was amazed at Hefter's ability to create lovable characters plummeting to failure with wonderfully perverse and timely metaphors. I found the book so stimulating visually, at times disgusting, but always riveting. I hope a director jumps on this. I simply can't wait for the film to come out, but I'm glad I read the book first! Thank you Mr. Hefter!

I have one really big problem with HUMP DAY . . . I couldn't put it down.

At another point in my life, pulling an all-nighter to finish a book was the norm, but I haven't been compelled to read 'round the clock for some time. Sure, HUMP DAY wreaked a bit of havoc in my ability to be present in life as I know it, but isn't that what a great book supposed to do -- pull you out of your reality into one that makes it almost impossible to leave?

I'm not sure what it says about me that I didn't want to leave the warped HUMP DAY world, but I do know what it says about the characters Hefter has created and the karmic mayhem he throws them into. Riveting. Surprising. Twisted.

HUMP DAY is dark {oh so very dark}, fast-paced and laugh-out-loud hilarious {always appreciated by the people sitting next to you in a once-quiet coffee shop}.

My only question is -- why are you still reading this? You should already have this novel in your trusty Amazon shopping cart en route to experiencing your very own HUMP DAY reading binge. Enjoy!
