One Hundred Reasons(Book 1) was a 5-star story but somehow the Aspen Cove series just keeps getting better. Marina had cameos in previous books and all we knew was she was a victim of domestic abuse. In One Hundred Excuses, we finally learn her story and find out she has gone from victim to victor. She is a momma bear who will do whatever it takes to protect Kellyn and give her the life she deserves. Aiden is the perfect man for Marina. He is calm, not easily provoked, caring, compassionate, and loving. He will do whatever it takes to protect Marina and Kellyn. He's pretty close to perfect. The marriage proposal was perfect! *swoon*
I loved the relationship between Aiden and Kellyn. I liked that when Marina got mad at Aiden for going behind her back, she didn't shun him or run away. She needed a little time to process why he did what he did and forgave him. I absolutely LOVED the way Marina took down Craig!
As always, the people of Aspen Cove rallied around and did what they do best: embrace newcomers and help in whatever way they can. I loved catching up with old friends.
I urge you to read One Hundred Excuses and the entire Aspen Cove series. Kelly Collins is a talented author you really need to read.

If you can accept the pace at which MC recovers from extremely abusive relationship, everything else is fine. I did like the MC but that part didn't feel very fitting for me.

I have really enjoyed this series. Thanks to Amazon offering the first book since I had never read Kelly Collins 's wonderful books. She wrote a great story about an abused woman who gets out of an abusive situation by a man whose family controlled the small town. She takes her four-year old stepdaughter with her legally. I was afraid to not enjoy the book because of the domestic abuse having spent years in law enforcement and seeing how few of the.abused actually left the abuser even when offered help. But Ms Collins wrote Marina.as.smart and clever filming the abuser with a nanny cam he did not know she aquired. She used that leverage to get out with her as the child's legal guardian. Meeting her neighbor a kind honest ethical Sheriff who wanted to be a friend to them both. Of course love comes and more . Several surprises and of course the abuser still trying to get her even though their marriage was annulled.
I don't spoil it for you. It was a good read with HEA. Written by a smart well-educated author.

What a heartwarming story! This is the story of Marina, an abused wife who refuses to give in to her husband (and abuser). She finds a way to divorce him, moves away, and begins a new life in Aspen Cove for herself and her stepdaughter, Kellyn. Their new neighbor, Aiden, turns out to be the town sheriff. I absolutely loved all of the main characters in this book. Aiden is the perfect man - strong, honorable, and loving. His gentleness with Marina and Kellyn is so touching, as he realizes the extent of the abuse they've suffered through. Marina is determined to make it, and I loved how she slowly allowed herself to become open to Aiden's caring. And Kellyn is the sweetest little girl ever, you can't help but root for her as she begins to overcome the trauma of the abuse she suffered from her father. The townspeople of Aspen Cove also play a big part in welcoming Marina and Kellyn, and helping them to fit in. This is a heartwarming story, and one you'll really enjoy. The ending is fantastic and extremely satisfying!

One Hundred Excuses by Kelly Collins is an honest and well written tale about finding true love after terrifying domestic abuse. Sheriff Aiden Cooper is a good man with a big heart. Marina is a single mom who's just trying to start a new life and keep her daughter safe. The small town, which is now her new home, is filled with interesting and kind people who help each other and who welcomed her and Kellyn with opened arms. This stand-alone character driven novel has a balanced mix of happy, sad, tense and passionate. At the heart of this sweet story is the undeniable love Aiden and Marina have for each other, which leads to a very happy ending.
Content 411: Domestic violence and the continued threat to a woman and child is at the heart of this story. Also, in addition to a moderate amount of common swearing, there is some passionate kissing and a few on screen love scenes.

This was a good story line with much love and some suspense . The town looked after its own in every way possible. I loved how the writer did not put many ups and down with the relationship between the Sheriff and his love. I loved how the Sheriff protected what was his and allowed her to defend herself in the end. The ex should have gotten more blows though. loved it and recommend to othrs.

Did not finish, I can't handle these one-dimensional characters and the lack of narrative tension. I stopped at 42%, and at this point there's only been one scene where the heroine's hopes and dreams were even distantly threatened. It's all been sunshine, picnics, flowers, and garden metaphors. All the characters have messy backstories but no depth, or flaws, which leaves the dialogue painfully wooden and on-the-nose. "I have trust issues after my years of abuse, but I think of myself as a victor and not a victim." "Wow you're so strong, and I understand. We need to sow the seeds of trust for our relationship to bloom." "You're obviously a good man and I trust you more already." (Barely paraphrased.)
One extra star for that one scene where something actively bad was hinted at happening sometime in the future, because it made me sit up in my chair

Domestic violence triggers
This stand-alone is easy to follow but at times difficult to read due to emotions evoked. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.
This storyline focuses around domestic violence and child abuse but offers little information about protecting oneself. Flexible procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking dialogue.
No desire to ee-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.

This book from start to finish was brilliant, a heart rending story about abuse from a vicious Ex Craig, his child who was terrorised by him and couldn’t speak, a romance between the abused Marina and the Sheriff of Aspen Cove with a happy ending. There was a twist at the end regarding the vicious Ex. who got his comeuppance but you were kept in suspense throughout the book wondering what he was up to. Recommended read.

So pleased to have Marina's story. Her move to Aspen Cove has been well received by the people she met at the peek of all her troubles, and grows as she settles into the community. When she meets her neighbour Aiden the fact that he's the police chief in the township makes her a little unsteady to start with, but they soon make friends when her four year old daughter Kellyn takes a shine to him.
This story is full of hope in building a new life and love for both Marina and Kellyn.
